Q: iPod Classic

I bought a new iPod 7th gen, 160 GB and here is the numbers it gives me.

• Retracts: 6
• Reallocs: 0
• Pending sectors: 8
• Poweron Hours: 12
• Start/stops: 300

The iPod have no songs, no photos, nothing and it shows that 0KB free, it freezes the iTunes when connected and when formatting it always fail.

I can't access it nor restore it.

what is the statues of the Hard Drive and how to solve this issue ?

Those 8 pending sectors should not really be there on a new device. Try the DFU restore method or formatting on an alternate platform, i.e. a Mac if you have Windows or vice-versa.

Assuming you have Windows what version of iTunes are you running? Support for iPod classic seems to temperamental for some users running recent all 64-bit versions. Norton AV may also be a factor.

I have the latest iTunes update for windows (12.2.1.16) and I don't use any of Norton products.

What should I do on the DFU Mode ?

If you have 64-bit Windows you may find that iTunes 12.2.1 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) works better for you.

The DFU Restore method is given in Corrupt iPod classic. It may sometimes clear up issues that the normal restore does not.

I got to DFU mode, the iTunes downloaded a small file and started preparing iPod for recovery, when the bar was full, the iPod rebooted and opened in a disk mode like screen.

then nothing.

Can't format it, can't check it for errors.

I will try doing any of that using a Mac and see what happens.

Try the DFU restore or reformat methods. If you can clear all of the pending sectors into reallocs you may get more use out of it.

I'm stuck in an endless restore loop and have tried everything I could find online........is it kaput?

The stats look OK. Try the DFU restore method given in Corrupt iPod classic.

tried it.....nothing. just keeps putting me back in a restore loop.

Will it go into disk mode? If so you could try formatting it then restoring.

I can get it into disk mode, reformat it, restore and nothing.

What anti-virus package do you have, if any? Norton in particular of late has been causing issues for some people. Temporarily disabling AV may help.
