Q: Iphone 6 ring/silent switch not working

The ring/silent switch on the left side of my iphone 6 is stuck in silent mode and when I try to switch it into ring mode it doesn't stick and just springs back down. Anyone else having this issue?

iPhone 6, iOS 8

I got the same problem. This is really crazy because I just activate the phone and I realize that the ring/silent button did not work. I switched it to silent mode and it cannot go back to the ring mode. The phone is sealed when it came to my hand and I am now in Vietnam. I wonder that I could exchange the phone in Singapore because I am going there in the next 2 weeks so I will visit Apple Store. My phone carrier is SPRINT and it is UNLOCKED already. Anyone has experience in iPhone warranty in different countries?

This is the second times I got this issues with iPhoneS

iPhone warranties are only valid in the country in which the phone was officially (not grey market) purchased. The exception would be phones purchased in the EU. The warranty is then valid in any EU country. If you have a Sprint phone, you would need to take the phone to a store in the U.S. or arrange to have the phone shipped to Apple from within the U.S.

Thank you so much for your information. I will visit America next Jan and I will get a new replacement. I think in 3 months from the day we activated the phone we could change to a new one if the phone has any problem, right?   Hope that everything will be OK

I see a few times about Apple not reading these posts.  Realistically, there are so many posts to go thru.  If you want Apple to know, please be sure to use the right place. You can submit product feedback about this at [apple.com/feedback apple.com/feedback] . Apple has a team who's entire job is dedicated to reviewing this feedback, and escalating it to the proper outlets (such as the engineers for iTunes, iPhone, iPad, etc.), so you can rest assured that your voice will be heard! The more feedback Apple receives about product features, the more likely they are to implement them! Anyone recall the Camera Roll coming back into iOS 8, or the list view coming back to calendars with iOS 7?  Direct result of people using the right place to report an issue.

My 6+ is in a Pelican case. The switch is covered by a door. The phone muted itself. Some of this, while the switch could be at fault in some cases my switch is covered and was never used until I had to toggle it to un-mute the phone. Apple has a software bug as well. Apple's problem is this is rare. I have had the phone for several months.

I just got my phone 6 plus on April 27, 2015 and this problem that others have reported is still going on.  At first I was quite puzzled.  I pulled the lever to mute and the visual signal flashed on the screen but then reverted back to the signal for not muted as the lever popped back to the other position.  I did it again and it popped back again.  Interestingly, it seems to be working better now that I have pressed the lever on and off quite a few times.  It still seems like it will easily snap back to not mute when I want it on mute but it seems to stick a lot better now.  So a tip, just working it back and forth a bit might sufficiently resolve the issue without needing to have to replace it.  I don't think that I'm just caving in and putting up with a defective phone, it really seems it just needs to be worked in. There is no Apple store in my town and the closest one is a nice little drive away.

The question was not "What should I do about...", but rather "Anyone else having this issue?".

Well tolkan_girl is not responsible for the thread but I get you are responding to what she stated in her post.  So, from your response to tolkan_girl you are suggesting that the original post should not have been made?  If the original post is OK it would be nice if folks responded to it and not critique other peoples posts.

Same problem here, and because the screen has a small scratch (between home button and bottom of screen) Apple refuse to fix the mute switch under warranty!

If (and only if) I pay them $500 to fix screen, they will then fix the switch free of charge under warranty. Disgusting!

The mute switch on my IPhone 6 stopped working this week and is stuck in the mute mode. An article I read has a temporary solution until you are able to take it to the Apple store for repair especially since iPhone 6 is still under warranty.

    http://www.iphonetopics.com/iphone-6-ring-silent-switch-not-working/

    Devices: iPhone 6, iOS 8.

    Solution 1:-

This is a common solution to solved this mute button issue.

    iPhone Assistive Touch menu

First turn on Assistive touch. Go to Settings -> General ->Accessibility -> Assistive touch ->on

    Then Tap circle.

    Choose “device”.

iPhone Assistive Touch mute and volume options

Now you have chance to”mute” or “unmute”.

After doing this step, turn off Assitive touch (as your wish).

    Solution 2:-

First check your iPhone warranty status via online. If your iPhone covered any under warranty or Apple care, take the iPhone to Apple service center.

I discovered this issue on my iPhone 6 (black 64GB) five minutes ago and then stumbled upon this thread just now. However, I have now solved the issue. As with your phone, the ring/silent button was stuck on silent mode and it would spring back if I tried switching it. This might sound silly, but what fixed the issue was not blowing on the button, but sucking in air like a vacuum over the button. There must have been some kind of crud that was blocking the switch. It works perfectly now.
