Q: Apple Watch Sport screen scratched?

After 2 days of normal use and looking after my watch better than my own child I have found that when in direct sunlight i can see what appears to be a hairline scratch directly down the centre of the face. I just cannot understand why this has happened? nothing has bumped or came into contact weigh the face other than my finger, even at night when its on charge i placed it in an old pillow case until I can get a stand? Im very meticulous about looking after my products and find this very unsettling that its happened after 2 days. Its really distracting when I'm outside as the scratch scathes the light constantly.

Im sure if I go into the store I will basically be told its my own fault but what do you think my options are? is it possible that this was on the screen before I got it?

Just would like to know if anyone else has had this issue?

Cheers

It's probably the extreme orange peel effect that hides the scratch.

    Same problem.

After 2 days, 2 small scratches on the side.

Called AppleCare but they said to me that the problem is not recognized by Apple.

    (Sorry for my bad english)

<sarcasm>If there were only a way to protect the watch from scratches. </sarcasm>

It's been thoroughly established, in this thread alone, that the Apple Watch is easily scratched.  If you don't buy a screen protector and a bumper for it, it WILL get scratched.

    So you have two options:

    A) If believe that if you pay $400 for a watch, it shouldn't scratch easily. If that's a dealbreaker for you, return the watch.

    B) If you really want the functionality of the watch and don't want it to be scratched, buy a screen protector and a bumper (which has been suggested in this thread -- with photos), install it and enjoy your watch.

It was a simple choice for me.  Am I annoyed I had to return my scratched watch, wait for another, and then wait another two weeks for my backordered Spigen protector to arrive before I could wear the watch?  Yes.  But I like the watch.  The lack of scratch resistance is disappointing, but it wasn't a deal breaker because I found an alternative approach.

    It's just that simple guys.

Zagg screen protectors have "extreme orang peel effect"? Nah, I don't think so. Sure, there is a subtle rippling/mottling of distant reflections when you hold the watch close up, but nothing I would call extreme. At normal viewing distances in average lighting, I don't even notice the screen protector. What I think optically conceals any actual scratch is the damp adhesive application, rather than any particular surface effect. I noticed that with screen protectors on other iDevices I had scratched up in the past.

I thought I might notice the edge since it stops about half-way along the curved screen, but it just optically disappears for some reason. Maybe a full-bleed edge would be better, but that would also be more difficult to align precisely. So far, after a couple of weeks of use in hiking and traveling, the Zagg is staying put... no peeling up yet.

My only complaints on the Zagg HD thus far:

    1. It covers up a very functional oleophobic coating on the Ion-X glass, so the Zagg collects fingertip oils faster than the glass.

    2. It feels slightly less slick than the glass.

I'll take those downsides in exchange for the freedom of not worrying as much about scratching or cracking the glass.

**Sort of unrelated** But if you're still charging it inside of a pillowcase, I would stop. User guide mentions to charge it in a spot where it's ventilated and not closed-in.

I'm having the same issues. Minor scratches after weeks of normal use. Very disappointed that a "wearable" product that cost this much is not durable enough for everyday activities.

I posted elsewhere about my scratch but am now seeing your post.  I was disappointed because I have worn watches all my life and don't remember ever damaging one and I did not mistreat it. I just wear it like I do any other watch that I have owned.  It just makes me sick that it is scratched already.  I did buy AppleCare and did try to go into the Apple store but they were all booked up and I live 2 hours away from there so they suggested I call support.  I will see if I can get it repaired but after reading a more recent post I am not going to hold me breath.

Count me in as one who is having the same issue with unexplained scratches on my Apple Watch. Once scratch is starting to expand across the screen. When I went into an Apple Store this weekend to ask about it; I was told the only option I had was to buy a new watch through Tech Support for $290. I was flabbergasted. Excuse me, I just spent $399 on this watch that your website states the glass is especially resistant to scratches and impact.

As a very loyal Apple consumer, this experience was unfortunately far from the customer satisfaction and service I have read and heard so much about. Why do I have to pay more money to replace a brand new yet faulty product?

I Purchased an iwatch sport Few weeks ago within a couple of weeks I noticed a scratch on the glass I am retired so don't do any other than wear for normal

use brought the watch on the basis it was almost impossible to scratch went to apple to complain they said its normal wear and tear wanted £150 to replace I dread to think what it's will be like after a few months no point in buying one if you don't wear most of the time you Advise don't buy one if you u expect it to stay scratch free so annoyed I paid £340 for may sell on ebay

I have the same issue, i've taken better care of it than my iphone or macbook and the black part on the edges of the screen appears to be scratched and shows a silver like background. Hard to explain but here is a photo.

I'm also having the same problem with my Apple Watch Sport which came with a couple of dirty patches which were wiped off using a AF Screen Wipe to remove the dirt and that reviled 2 huge scratches and what looks to be marks where it has been rubbed up against a hard surface such a concrete. I'm not happy but Apple are trying to resolve the situation and replace the Watch. But I can't see how a product this expensive can have damage on it before I've even used it

Unfortunately, I am also having this problem with my 42mm space gray sport Apple Watch. I bought it only one month and a half ago. What upsets me the most is the fact that these scratched appeared suddenly and too much easily (see attached picture).  I know that the screen is not sapphire but I use iPhone since 3GS version and I never had such issues of scratches on screen's surface! Moreover, I expected more from a watch paid EURO 469,00! I live in Italy and I made a reservation to the Genius Bar of my nearest Apple store. I will let you know what they will reply and how (and IF) I will be able to solve this problem.thumb_IMG_5862_1024.jpg
