Q: How to set safari to ask for download folder

Can't imagine this is not possible. As a lot of appliacnes nowadays use the browser to backup images, backups, configurations and alike, one has to be able to keep these files in different directories, not in 1 big garbage 'downloads'.
How can I tell safari to ask me for the download folder each time?

macbook pro 15 i7, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Apple are so infuriating, they do this in all of their software. Simple functions taken out that annoy lots of users and it keeps getting worse. Its been the same with iTunes for years aswell.

Right? They let this little thing trigger a complete rant on Apple as a company. Are they implying that Google and Windows do not have their quarks? I can rip on many eft ups of Google and Microsoft. Look at history.

Hey Trolls - right click "save target as". Problem solved. Just as many clicks as your other browsers. In fact you can do this same thing on ALL browsers. Learn how to operate a computer before becoming little emotional biatches.

You could try pointing Hazel at the downloads folder & allow it to perform actions based on the file origin.

Create a rule to move items into a subfolder via the (domain) pattern or any other criteria.

I understand that it isn't the fix you want in Safari - however this can allow you to move files & folders for ANY app, not just Safari. You can apply the same rules to all the browsers if you desire & enable or run particular rules for particular browsing sessions. OS X will add the origin URL to any file obtained via standard apps, it is part of the quarantine system.

Problem solved? So where is the "save target as" option when downloading files from Dropbox?

I would love to use Safari for all the benefits it gives me when navigating with the trackpad. But this insistence on not letting me choose where I download files to (which I do a LOT) is just a pain in the backside. It's such a small fix to make! I wonder why Apple won't add it? Surely there has to be a reason otherwise they'd have done it by now?

    Dear All,

The issue seems to have been finally solved. It took Apple an incredible amount of years, but here's a screenshot of Safari's preferences in the latest version from the OSX 10.11 El Capitan beta preview:

I only have it installed in a secondary computer, I can't wait for the fully fledged version to be released and start migrating to the speed and order of Safari as soon as possible.

    Take care,

    a.

Hi there.  I assume that I will need to wait for the next version of OS X before this feature is available based on your post.  Is that correct?  I do not have that option and my MacBook Pro was purchased from Apple in May.  Here is a screen shot.  When selecting "other" it asks for me to set a new destination folder.

10.11 is beta, you will need to wait and see if the feature is left in when it is released.
