How to move Time Machine backups from one AirPort Time Capsule to another - Apple Support

These instructions ask you to connect to your new TimeCapsule disk before you set it up.  Step 7:  "Click the Connect As button in the Finder window, then enter the password for the AirPort Time Capsule.".  No setup = no password = no connect = instructions COMPLETELY USELESS.

Further, I tried all manner of setting up my new time capsule:

"as a replacement" whereupon the system tried to walk me through things automatically being setup and transferred to the new time capsule.  "Unspecified errors" kept that operation from succeeding.  Even upon repeated attempts and hard-resetting the new time capsule.

"as an extension of my current network" whereupon my network operations slowed to a completely useless crawl while my mac decided how to route my internet traffic.  The only way I could actually get online was to unplug the new time capsule.  No matter, I thought...I'll just configure like this to copy the backups from one to another and then reconfigure the new one as my router, un-bridged.  That was ALSO a fail, because Finder would not let me connect to two time capsule disks at the same time.  Whichever one I connected to first would let me browse files.  The other would not.  I could "connect', but the finder window remained empty.

Thoroughly disappointed, Apple.

Yosemite is a major part of the problem.

If you have ipad try it from iOS version utility.. it is rather better than the Mac version.

Usually transferring backups is a waste of time... start a new backup.. and hold onto the old TC for a couple of months.. to make sure you have enough history that you are unlikely to need more. We find that moved sparsebundles are less reliable.. and TM is not that reliable anyway on yosemite to network drives so give it the best chance possible by starting again.

If you really want help we can make it happen.. once you are over the rant stage.
