Q: Photos not uploading to shared album

I just returned from a trip where I took 3,300 photos. I want to share them in an iCloud photo album. Apple says you can share up to 5,000 photos/videos. I created the album and uploaded the photos. The Photo app indicated it was uploading all 3,300 photos, but now the shared album is created and says it has 260 photos. Why didn't all of the photos upload? Thanks for any help - I can't find any info about this anywhere.

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

    It takes some time for 3000 photos to upload to a shared album. How long has it been?

    It's been over an hour and the upload indicator ("sharing items to...") showed the upload complete. I actually started the upload again and the second try is complete too but it's the same 260 photos as the first try.

    Figured out the issue. Only a certain number of photos can upload at a time. Uploading resumes every few hours. Good to know! I'm up to 1,500 now, so about half way there.

    Guess I jumped the gun. 2,086 photos were uploaded to the shared album, but I selected 3,326 to upload. I tried to add more photos to the shared album this evening and got a message that I have reached my max of 5,000 shared photos/videos. It clearly shows 2,086 photos in the only shared album I have. I can't see any reason to be getting this message. Can anyone help?

     

    EDIT: Figured it out - I tried to select the entire album to upload, hoping it wouldn't upload duplicates. 3,326 times 2 is more than 5,000. So now I selected images from where the upload left off - hopefully everything makes it.
