Q: How do I upgrade iPhoto?

I receive this message. "A new version of iPhoto is available as part of iLife '11" I want to upgrade my iPhoto from v8.1.2 (424), but cannot find iPhoto or iLife in the AppStore. I am using OSX 10.9.5.

I don't care if it costs a little, unless I'm entitled to a free upgrade. At this point, I've spent a few hours looking for it, and can't understand why Apple makes this so difficult.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks!

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), safari 537

You can no longer get iPhoto from the Mac App Store; people who previously downloaded it from there can get 9.6.1, but iPhoto 8.1.2 was only ever available on DVD or with some pre-Lion Macs.

Unless you're willing to upgrade to Yosemite and use Photos, you need to either buy an iLife 11 DVD or choose not to upgrade.

There is no iPhoto anymore. When you upgrade to Yosemite you will find iPhoto has been replaced by Photos. I suggest you upgrade to Yosemite. There no longer is an iPhoto upgrade available. And, you don't have a copy of iPhoto that had been purchased from the App Store.

It's possible to buy copies of the iLife '11 DVD on Amazon or eBay. Be sure you get a copy of the retail DVD.

    iPhoto was recently discontinued.

Get the free update to Yosemite (Apple Menu > About this Mac > Software Update). Use migration tool to transfer photos from iPhoto to "Photos" app.

Great stock answer looking for points but worthless for the OP's question - they need iphoto 9.5.1 - which I do not believe is available - they should have updated a couple of years ago when they went to OS X 10.9.5

Thank you all who responded so quickly.

I've just read many unfavorable reviews of "Photos", and it sounds like I don't want that.

I wanted to download the software, so I don't have to wait for delivery of a disk in the mail-how old fashioned!

Apparently, there was an iPhoto13, which I guess is not sold separately.

All I wanted to do was be able to edit photos from my iPhone on my MacBook.

But iCloud says I must upgrade iPhoto first.

Why does this Apple support still say it's available on AppStore?

Is there anything official from Apple saying it was discontinued?

The official announcement came with the official announcement of Yosemite 10.10.4. You asked about an application for Mac computers, not for iDevices. Look for iPhone apps at the iTunes Store within iTunes.

Thanks again. So how would you recommend to upload / edit my iPhone photos on my Mac?

Use Image Capture to import them, and then choose and get an editor from the Mac App Store or the developer websites.
