Q: Cannot Get Airport Extreme to Extend Time Capsule Network

Network has been working smoothly for last two months with Verizon Router set to Bridge Mode and Time Capsule set up as Router w WiFi Network working properly, with Airport Extreme connected via ethernet and Express connected Wireless. Suddenly stopped working and had to reset modem every 15 minutes. Rest the Verizon modem to Bridge Mode and confirmed. Reset TC, setting connect using PPP0E, network DCHP and NAT. So I got internet and all green lights.

Then attempted to add the Airport Extreme and only works when set up w ethernet cable directly into TC and set it to extend network. Get green lights and all fine until I unplug it, move it and plug in again. It then is not recognized. Same issue with Airport Express. I have noted and followed carefully your separate direct instructions for resetting several times. No luck so far.

    Then attempted to add the Airport Extreme and only works when set up w ethernet cable directly into TC and set it to extend network.

    Unfortunately, that would be the wrong setting for this type of configuration, that is, when both base stations are interconnected by Ethernet. The correct setting for each base station would be for the Network Mode to be set to: Create a wireless network. The "extend" option is only used when they interconnect by wireless. However, it appears that your goal is to have them interconnected by wireless.

    What I suggest is that you bring the Extreme into the same room as the TC. Perform a "factory default" reset on it, and then, use the AirPort Utility to configure it to "Extend a wireless network." Once completed successfully go ahead and move it to the desired location. Note that where you place it will be critical. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on proper placement. The bottom line? If the extending base station is outside a specific range of the station that it is extending, it will either repeat the signal at a unusable bandwidth or loss of connectivity or both.

    actually that is exactly what I did...  so I did it again:

    connected AE to TC port via cable in the same room;

    selected AE on Airport Utility and option Extend Network Via Ethernet (which is what I want). when completed It greenlights and appears all fine. Checked in APT Utility Network setting shows "Create A Wireless Network" even thought I selected "extend" in the set up. Appears working fine. As soon as I disconnect the ethernet cable, error Device Not Found appears (attached). When I plug it into

    ethernet in other room, no response it does not locate in the APT utility.

    Sorry, but I guess I was not being clear. When you bring the Extreme into the same room as the TC, do NOT connect them by Ethernet. Instead you want to configure them with a wireless connection between them. The issue I see is that you set them up to be connected by Ethernet and then "broke" the configuration by attempting to use them with a wireless connection. How you set them up is how you want to use them. The idea is to have them co-located during the set up to make sure the configuration works, and then, move the Extreme to the final desired location.

    Ok. Again do NOT connect them by Ethernet. With the Extreme powered-off, perform the "factory default" reset. Once completed do NOT connect the Extreme to the TC. The AirPort Utility, on your iMac, should now see a new base station ... the AirPort Extreme. Select it and go through the automated steps to configure an extended network, and then, allow the Extreme to restart.

    Once restarted, verify that you now have a working extended network using the AirPort Utility. Once verified, go ahead and move the Extreme to the desired location.

    Please plug a computer into the ethernet in your other room where the AE is having trouble.. can you get internet via this cable.. if so please check it is full speed and hasn't dropped to 10mbit.

    If you have already proven the ethernet cable is good.. tell me what models everything is..

    TC and AE and Express. Actual model number from the base please unless you know the generation already.

    Mixing a Gen5 TC ie AC model with the earlier Extreme is not always without issues.
