Q: How can I turn off "Music" (especially iTunes Radio) on an iPhone/iPad (iOS 8)?
This seems to be a common question. Use Parental Controls in iTunes to set content restrictions - Apple Support shows a way to turn off "Internet Radio" in iTunes. I can't find anything similar for Music in iOS. Why not?
I am not satisfied with a "solution" that requires being signed out of my account. That might work for an iPad that's only used by a kid, but being signed out is no good at all when (for example) you're babysitting said kid while waiting nervously for the e-mail update on a sibling who's on the way.
I'd be satisfied with turning off the Music app altogether in Settings > General > Restrictions. I'd be happy leaving it there (it's empty) and turning off just the internet radio option like you can on desktop.
It'd be more work, but I'd also be happy with leaving it on and turning off the lousy "Featured stations" and showing only the ones that I add myself. The "Featured stations" have never contained any music that I had the slightest interest in, but I have recently learned that it does offer a remarkable number of pictures of half-dressed women and a wide selection of profanity even while restricted to "clean" lyrics. I've come to the conclusion that "clean" means "only contains cuss words that 12-year-old boys know", rather than "things you could let your three-year-old grandchild listen to without having to explain how he learned those words".
Is there any actual solution?
If not, is there any statement from Apple about why they offer this level of control to desktop systems but not to mobile systems? Or are they just hoping that the many requests for this feature will go away if they ignore them long enough?
