    • Check that your card has been added to Apple Pay on your watch:
      • Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap on My Watch (bottom left tab).
      • Scroll down and tap Passbook & Apple Pay.
      • Check whether any cards are listed under Cards.

    • If there is at least one card listed, try restarting your Apple Watch and then re-test double-clicking the side button:
      • Restart Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; Drag the slider to turn off completely; Afterwards, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    Also (and preferably first), check that you are double-clicking quickly enough.

    For guidance purposes, the double-click on the Apple Watch side button needs to be quicker than - for example - some of the slower speeds at which iPhone recognises a double-press of the home button (to view small previews of recently used apps).

    Has anyone been able to change the speed at which the click can be done or another way to bring up the screen? I have had the watch for almost a year and love it and the program. Would it help to close the friends app?

    Hi

    It is not possible to change the click speed that is required for using Apple Pay on Apple Watch.

    Double-clicking the Side button prepares the watch for making payment regardless of whether or not the Friends screen is open.

    The Wallet app on Apple Watch can also be opened by:

    - Opening the app from the Home screen (accessed via a single press on the Digital Crown);

    - Telling Siri to "open Wallet".

    Once the app has been opened, you can tap on a card to select it. However, a double-click will still then be required in order to proceed with making the payment.

    I find a better success rate by not only clicking as fast as I can but also by making sure that I click the center of the button. Clicking slightly off center seems to greatly increase the failure rate.
