Q: Cannot Import MXF into FCP 10.2.1
Hello,
I am a Production Coordinator at a local access station. This morning we captured some footage from a Sony PXW-X70 in the XAVC format (1080/30p/50mb). These file formats are not able to be imported into Final Cut X (version 10.2.1) Our system OS is currently at 10.10.4. Please note, we are running the original firmware on the PXW-X70 - we have not upgraded the camera's firmware since receiving it.
I have done extensive research over the past three hours and cannot find any good resolutions, even though Apple claims to be able to support XAVC / MXF files.
My work flow was as follows:
Copy the ENTIRE structure from the SD card on to my hard drive. I would try to drag the MXF files into the software and it would give me an "incompatible file" error. Upon reading some messages on the support community, I extracted ONLY the "XDROOT" folder to my hard drive. This also did not work.
We are at a loss over here. I tried hopping on to another system to see if it would work. While I was able to import the MXF file into Final Cut (same version; 10.2.1) it only showed up as an audio file without any video.
At this point I'm figuring I will have to convert the files to something that Final Cut is a little more friendly with. This will also not work. I have tried "Catalyst Browse" only to see the "Transcode" option is greyed out and I cannot perform that task. Compressor didn't seem to be very friendly with these files as well.
We are really at a loss over here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
