ApplicationsHi,
In Messages > Preferences > General Section untick the items that says about gathering all lists into one.
Now use the Window Menu to display all the separate Buddy lists.
Which List is this Group in ? (I have never added a Group to a Buddy list but it is also a long time since I did a group chat outside of iMessages)
Exactly how are you trying to delete it ?
To Delete a Buddy means highlighting them and then using the Backspace key and confirming the same in a dialogue.
Sometimes a Buddy will stay if an account is logged in twice.
Make sure all accounts possibilities are logged out.
This will include Web Logins which can be logged in for up to 2 weeks if you don't specifically Log out..
The second use of the Budd List will keep putting the Buddy back.
I have this issues with one Buddy in a Google List
If I log in to the Web Mail page and look at the chat list he does not appear.
However in Messages he keeps coming back.
I have launched all three Macs I have in iChat and Messages and made sure he is deleted across all of them - that they are logged out and I delete him in the final Login - nothing seems to work.
As far as I can tell from the web login this person has only emailed me.
Both Google and AIM have a 2 week default Login period if your don't log out before quitting the web page.
Don't forget Phones and work computers.

ApplicationsHi,
I had a personal email on the same subject at home and I may have misunderstood this question.
If you mean you have added a Group to a Buddy list similar to the exiting ones of Family and Co-workers or Buddies as some of them show up as then the following should work.
Right click the Title Bar of the Group then use the Backspace key.
This cannot be used though if the group you are trying to remove is the AIM "Recent Buddies" one.
Turn off the Option to Display it first in the Preferences > Accounts > Aim Account(s)
They do the deletion.
IN all cases you should log out of every device that might also be logged in as that will replace the "deleted" item as fast as you remove it.

Did you have any luck with this?
I've tried the suggestions from the person below on my end and nothing worked.
I've also tried blocking the group chat but that doesn't work either they still are able to instant message me.

As you can see by my responses I have considered that there can be two sets of groups that could be talked about.
The second post I made refers to the groups in a Buddy List.
This Pic shows the Right Click Contextual Menu (I clicked on "My Accounts") which shows the Delete option.
In AIM accounts the AIM server keep records of people you have Contacted but have not actually added to your Buddy List.
You can see these though if your enable the Recent Buddies Settings in the Preferences
You cannot delete this group (only turn it Off)
You cannot delete people from it (you can add them to your Buddy List and then delete them.
However you should also be able to add this to the AIM Block List (in the Privacy tab in the above pic)
If you had a group chat in either AIM, Jabber or Yahoo then you should be able to leave the chat and not see any further IMs from the people on the Group.
In later versions of the iMessages account you get an option to Leave the conversation.
I have not had a Group chat in iMessages for so long I have not tested this yet and I am not sure which Menu the option might be found in (Edit seems the most likely)

Aug 12, 2015 1:24 PM in response to LambyJby Ralph Johns (UK),Hi,
Which version 8 ?
Apple have called the Mavericks version version 8
And the Yosemite one (although there are significant changes).
At the El Capitan beta one as well.
What is the title of this group ?
Which Buddy List does it belong to ?
If you don't know separate them out (in the General Section of the Preferences - undo the "gather all Lists" thing).
And where do you use this list as changes can only really be made when there is only one Login (other logins will keep putting things back).
