Q: are there driver updates that are compatable with Canon Pixma MX850?

I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite and now I cannot print .  I contacted Canon for printer support and was told there is not software available  Canon Pixma MX850 is not compa

    Not surprising, really. Did you try the drivers for Mavericks? They do list drivers for 10.9 on their website.

    You might (or might not) be able to get the printer partially working by manually selecting the driver for a similar model that is supported, such as the MX 860.

    The MX850 v10.84 driver for OS X 10.9 will install and work on 10.10. Here is a link to that driver from Canon Australia.

    It is infuriating that both Apple and Canon screw over their customers like this when we've now proven there's no technical reason for the printer not to work with El Capitan. I'm not about to replace my MX850 which is in perfect condition and is a better made product than anything Canon currently has on the market. Printer manufacturers are the scum of the earth. They've basically reached a point where their product is no longer in high demand, so they make junk hardware designed primarily to sell overpriced ink cartridges.
