Q: Error Message while reinstalling printer software

I get the error message while reinstalling the software for my HP printer

System extension cannot be used

The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

How do I fix this?

MacMini, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Why are you reinstalling the software?

    What specific printer?

Are you installing the correct driver version for your OSX version? You say you have 10.6.7.

If yo fully update to 10.6.8 drivers may be available from the Mac App Store

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.

Then download the iTunes installer package. Run it.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Why? Because my husband used my printer and it wouldn't do what he wanted it do to/thought it should do so he started mucking around with it but couldn't remember exactly what he did so I couldn't fix it.  Decided to just nuke it and start over.

Based on the reason give I would install the 10.6.8 combo update and then the 10.6.8 Supplemental update, Backup you dta first. For details see the Snow Leopard topic of:

    http://pondini.org/OSX/Combo.html

Then try reinstalling the printer drivers
