Jan 19, 2015 4:01 PM in response to Todd Getzby THeXtreme,I've been monitoring this post for some time and was scared to install Yosemite on my MBP Mid-2010 with 4GB RAM, original 5400 RPM HD. I finally decided to give it a try when Mavericks started to act up.
I've only had to play with it for a few days, but I'm actually "OK" with the performance so far. I think it may actually run a little faster?
I mainly use my laptop for browsing, email and iDevice backups. FileVault is turned off.

May 19, 2015 12:22 AM in response to enautby 18kitchy,Hi all,
So I scrolled through all the fixes posted here since last October. Yosemite has become unbearably slow for me too (2010 Macbook Pro) and I checked to see if FileVault was enabled. It wasn't. So, to recap -- what are my basic options here?
Switch out my HDD to a SSD? Is that the bottom line? I can't get any work done anymore. It seems to take Microsoft Word two minutes just to create a new document using Save As. This is untenable.
I'm not even sure how I'd switch back to Maverick. I don't know where the original discs are. Suggestions?

Aug 13, 2015 8:06 AM in response to Todd Getzby mynetsky,My macbook pro mid 2010 8GB RAM 256GB HD SSD is really slow, Any web browser eats my hole CPU and my RAM. I tried everything in this article and keep really slow. I also installed yosemite from scratch twice but I didn't get any good result.
From my point of view, My conclusion is that Apple updates detect your system and if your system is old, make your machine slower to get new one.

Aug 23, 2015 4:16 PM in response to Todd Getzby Alwaqfi,After seeing all these complains about Yosemite on Mid 2010 I decided not to upgrade. Seems Mavericks is the last and best OS to run on anything not iCore (i3, i5, or i7).

Sep 10, 2015 12:16 PM in response to Alwaqfiby vickispark,Hi there,
Mine is macbook pro 2010 4GB ram 2.4 Ghz.(10.6.8)I booted yosemite to an USB drive.
Did erase the drive and performed clean install.
Boot time:50 secs
Free RAM available with no apps lauched except activity monitor: >2.5 GB
version upgraded to 10.10.5.
Seems the latest update is good.seen little lag but its the same as in snow leopard.
The UI is good but you will have to buy garage band/imovie apps from app store.
firefox and safari are working fine.
No issues so far with yosemite. If u still need speed i would suggest to go for SSD and install over it.
Thanks,
Vivek
