If it contains rented movies, those won't play on a computer other than the one they were downloaded to.

Cloud usually refers to something based out on the Internet rather than a physical drive you connect to your computer. Perhaps you've left something out? If it is a network drive rather than a directly connected external drive note that only one computer can connect to the library at a time.
You should also aim to keep at least two copies of your library on separate drives for security. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested method to keep the backup in sync with the original.

Aug 13, 2015 10:28 AM in response to turingtest2by gander7573,Well really it is a local network drive that is also a "cloud" drive hooked up to network (wireless included) and to the internet. I am keeping the files on both computers and the external hard drive. I would just like to use the "same" folder on the external drive for both computers. Before I posted this I already tried Niel's solution of the Shift(Window) but this only allows one computer at a time to "control" iTunes folder. Another reason I want to use the same folder is I was hoping this would keep all my kids iPods music sync no matter what computer they are controlled from.
