Aug 13, 2015 1:01 PM in response to Cblachereby i.Doug,Yes, on each iOS device open Settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photo Sharing switch to OFF. That will prevent photos from being shared with that device.
On each iOS device open Settings > iCloud > Photos > My Photo Stream switch to ON. This will upload all the photos from this device to iCloud. Also, in Settings > iCloud > Backup switch to ON. This will backup the settings and data on the device to iCloud.
Additionally, "Family Sharing" is referring to sharing only purchases with family members and not photos.
Suggestion: Please, update your iPad to the latest version of iOS. As of today that is 8.4. According to your post you are at 8.1.2. Settings > General > Software Update then follow the listed instructions.
