Q: Since 10.0.9 FCPX crashes at "Import Media"

Hi,

it never happend before, the problem has shown up after i updated fcpx.

 

I tried to import my footage, it´s from a panasonic hmc 151. 1080/50i, AVCHD.

I never had a problem before. It was always the some work around.

Open FCPX, insert SD-Card into the build in sd card reader, "import media", choose the filmes, set in and out point, import. finish.

 

After the update it starts that the footage will not be shown in the "import media" window. Ok, no problem I copied everything to my hard drive. Opened the "import media" window again. Nice, footage shows up. Now the problem, i can only see: clip1, clip 2 etc.

With the click on a file to preview or something final cut crashes within seconds.

 

Every time I try, what happend? Also with the Canon 550d/T2i Rebel footage.

No preview, straight crash.

I also saved the fail protocol, if someone needs it to help.

Try trashing preferences; I regularly use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion as my first remedy when FCP starts acting up.

 

What happens if you connect via USB cable? Are both Archive and Import available and do either work?

    **** yeah!!

    i tried it before without that program, nothing changed.

    With it, like blast. Everything´s fine in secondes and you can also make a backup to be sure.

    So tried this and all my projects/libraries disappeared! The learning curve for the version that worked was already pretty stiff. So the 'software guys' have to break stuff and make so many useless and unneeded changes to justify their jobs or something?  I don't get it.

     

    This "fix" cost  me a lot.

     

    Today may be the day I quit mucking around with FCPX and Yosemite and start doing my work in bootcamp until I can afford to change back to PC.

    Relax. Your projects haven't disappeared. They're in an event named Updated Projects.

    Well I tried that too. Didn't find any folders to update. So I had to research that to find them and point that tool at them. Then when I did get the project loaded, it was broken. I did more research and found a possible work around, I had to create a new project and copy/paste all the clips from the broken  timeline. That worked - or so I thought until I tried to share/make a video. After several attempts where FCPX added an hour of blank video -which I had to research and find another weird work around - it seems the only way to set the video length is by selecting all the clips -if there is another way google didn't know about it- I managed to actually make a video, and then FCPX crashed. Fortunately it waits until after the video is compiled to crash.

     

    This is not a "relaxing" experience.

     

    Before Yosemite Final Cut worked like a charm. Afterwards...well not so much. And the FCPX 'upgrade' doesn't do much for me either.

     

    I do like that little app. If only the OS wasn't half-baked and full of bugs.
