Q: HELP!!! I put a restore disc in thinking it was an install disc

I accidentally put a leopard mac os x 10.5 restore disc in my iMac 17" 2006 computer. The computer was at 10.4.11 and I purchased this restore disc thinking it was the installation disc. It ran disc 1 without a problem but soon as I put in disc 2 an error popped up saying it can't read the disc. Now every time I reboot the computer it says the same thing.... Installation in progress insert disc 2. Can anyone help ????? Can I go in single user and somehow enter commands to get out of this mess? I tried to go into recovery mode but it won't because it just goes straight into the installation process.

Please Help

Power down, boot holding Mouse button & alt key, insert Disk #1.

That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

OOkay it was tricky but it worked !!!! What I did exactly was I clicked on the wifi signal in the top right corner, went to network preferences, then clicked on mac. This brought up a box which I clicked on learn more so I could go to the internet. On the internet i download a file so that my hard drive would pop up on my desktop. Now I could insert disc one for a few seconds because it would keep spitting it out and ask for disc two. Once I inserted disc one i opened disc utility via my search tool on the hard drive. I clicked on disc one when it showed for a second in the disc utility and kept my finger down on the mouse. I inserted disc one again and waited til I could hear the DVD played reading the disc then I took my finger off the mouse and rapidly clicked on the desktop icon for disc one once it appeared. This began the install process over from the beginning again. I powered down the imac by holding down the power button, waited 30sec then powered back up. I selected only basic necessities and it worked and didn't even ask for disc two. Install of OS X 10.5 took only 30min . I'm now a leopard !!

    thanks x100000000
