Q: iTunes Video Playback Issues.

Hey folks,

I have been checking online and I have found posts that people are having video playback issues using iTunes when buying from iTunes store. I tried some of the steps but it seems no one seems to fix the issue?

When I purchase any movie, does not matter what movie I purchase, when finished downloading, I play the movie, at random times when the movie becomes intense, the video playback like freeze itself, speeds up then back to normal video playback but the audio is out of sync with the movie unless I click the bottom rewind/forward line bar to put the audio back into sync.

For example, you can see the actors mouth are not in tune with the audio output. It does this crazy symptom again, again and again. It is driving me bonkers.

Can I ask the Mac Community to advised me what troubleshooting steps I can try to eliminate the problem step by step. I will report back to let you all know how I get on.

I have a White Macbook Late 2009 with 1TB HDD, 2.26GHZ Intel Core Duo 2 Processor & 8GB Crucial 1067mhz DDR 3 RAM. I am currently using the latest OS X available, 10.10.4.

I await your instructions.

Thank you.

It looks to me that your computer has problem playing back the video when there really is processing pressure in the image.  Are these HD video and if so what kind (1080, 720?)

Oh, and please do not reply with such a huge font. Not everybody views this forum with mobile devices and your first post scrolled over 4 of my monitor windows and I could read it from across the room.

Sorry about the font size being big, I am blind so I don't see clearly. What I do I will type big then bring the font down to normal size.

Both videos in SD and HD format.

Do you really think this Macbook would struggle?

Granted it a 2009 model but it should be able handle SD smoothly than HD.

I have tried going into iTunes, Preferences, Playback, set to standard definition, problem remains.

I played youtube videos from low resolution to HD resolution without issues.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks, Boabyboy.

Anybody got any ideas to suggest what is causing the iTunes playback to stutter?

I have tried going into Parental Control to disable, iTunes store, iTunes U, Apple Music Connect, Shared Libraries, Internet Radio and Podcast.

    Problem remains?

    Hi Folks,

I have tried this step below,

    1. System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All

         Press the "Delete All" button.

         Install Adobe Flash Player.

        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

       Download it first.

       The next step is important.

Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.

Follow the prompts and install it.

        Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.

    2.  Allow  Plug-ins

        Safari > Preferences > Security

        Internet Plug-ins >  "Allow  plug-ins"

        Enable it.

    3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy

Press the button “ Remove All Website Data”.

but still no luck, iTunes still continues to have video playback stutter?

    Any ideas folks?

    Thanks, Boabyboy.

    Hi Folks,

Another quick update, look like I cannot use iTunes 32 BIT Mode?

Does anyone know how to force iTunes to use 32 BIT mode instead of 64 BIT?

    Regards,

About the video stuttering I have no movies from the iTunes Store but I do not think your hardware is an issue in the basic sense.  However, you may have other issues going on such as other things competing for resources at the same time as playback which are causing this.  Try quitting unecessary applications when running iTunes. Also try running iTunes in safe mode to see if other plugins are interfering.

iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203395 - hold down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes

    Persistent message to deselect 32 bit option - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5955627 - old plug-ins

Some have found reinstalling iTunes to fix the problem.  Drag the application to the trash and re-install.

Flash has nothing to do with video playback in iTunes. It is used on some web pages.

    Hey Folks,

It appears my iTunes video stutter is now resolved, .

Thank you, Limnos for some of the suggestions.

I have tried iTunes safe mode, but when playing movies, its prompts a message that quicktime is not supported on this iTunes.

I check both OS X iTunes library folders, only one had a quartz visualiser bundle but when moving to the trash can, it moves 2 files which I only see one, but stalls moving to the trash can?

But then I saw I had an OS X update from 10.10.4 to 10.10.5 was available.

I updated to latest OS X patch and I played an existing iTunes movie, no stutter.

Heatbeat pulsing, I purchase an SD movie called Child 44 from the store but waited for the full movie to download first than watch the movie while its downloading in the background.

I am glad to report the movie for the entire duration did not freeze, stutter or caused any speed up then rewind or out of sync audio.

Back to normal, yay! and fingers cross.
