Q: Setup problems: Why won't my new iPod Touch let me fill in my correct Apple i.d.?

Bought an iPod Touch 6th Gen yesterday, but when I began setting it up, the iPod wouldn't accept my Apple i.d. (email address), even though I confirmed with my records that it was correct.  Each time I typed in the first letter of the i.d. and tried to follow it up with the rest of the email address, the first letter would disappear and the box went blank.  There seemed to be no issue with the password, so I tried entering that and then the i.d. again, but the same thing happened, but this time I got the "Not recognized" error message.

I moved on and was able to enter my home wireless network successfully (at least the 4-bar icon says I did) and set up a pass code, but couldn't complete the setup because of the Apple i.d. problem.  After several more attempts, I decided to start from scratch and did a reset, but the same thing happened. This problem doesn't seem to be addressed in the "At a Glance" or "Getting Started" chapters of the manual and I'm afraid I'm going to end up blocking the device if I keep on trying to enter my i.d..

Can anyone tell me why the iPod wouldn't accept my correct i.d. and password?  I don't want to create a second Apple i.d. and password.  (That way lies madness.)

Also, Is there a "troubleshooting" article on the Apple database for total Touch newbies?  Any information much appreciated!

Can you log into your ID in iTunes on a computer?

    Try resetting the password

    Last, contact iTunes

    Thanks, Illaass. Just to clarify:

    (1)    << Can you log into your ID in iTunes on a computer?>>

Do you mean I can try the correct setup by connecting the iPod to my computer and doing the setup via iTunes? (Which I assume involves entering my ID and password.)

    (2) <<Try resetting the password

Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support>>

I looked at this article yesterday but didn't proceed because the problem seems to be only with the ID (I type in the first letter of my email address but it doesn't let me type in any more letters), not the password itself. I've had problems in the past when I had to have two separate Apple IDs--one for the website and one for Apple Care--so I'm afraid if I try to create another ID, I'll run into more confusion in the future.

If I create a new ID and password, would it be valid for all Apple logins?

    (3)  <<Last, contact iTunes

    Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us>>

If set up a new ID/password that works on the iPod, does that mean (3) is irrelevant?  Or would that be for if the other two solutions don't correct the problem?

Thanks again for your assistance, and sorry for not fully understanding--I'm kind of a technodunce.

For (1) I meant on a computer open iTunes and go to Store and try logging in. That would test to see in it is a valid ID.

The new ID and PW should be valid for all logins. If ti works with the new ID and yo do not have an iTunes gift card redeemed on the old ID or you did not purchase any media with the old ID (iTunes purchases are locked to the ID that purchased hem)  I would do nothing but use the new ID.

I logged into the iTunes store and my ID is still valid, as it was for logging onto Apple.com to reply here. I guess I'll just have to call Apple Care, since the iPod is under warranty, and see if they can straighten things out.  But thanks for helping me confirm that the ID is legit.
