Q: Airprint problems.  Brother printer, brother print and scan finds the printer on the net work.  All other APS say no printers found?

Brother printer mfc-f4510dw, DLink ...-655' assorted apple i products.  All I stuff connected to network.  Printer connected to network,  prints from win-7 dell laptop.  When using brother iscan/iprint the printer can be found an I can scan or print.  All other apps can't find the printer.  Back ground.  Everything worked for years but the DLink quit so I replaces it with the same model used the same pass code but.

Interesting that you mention "the wireless access point that was serving the printer" – do you have multiple access points for your WiFi network?

My situation is this: I have a Time Capsule that connects to the modem (internet) and then I have at the floor below an Airport Extreme, that is part of the same network, so I have a stronger signal (I have a big house). I never had any problems with this setup, all my devices find the network without any problems. The Brother printer however detects TWO networks! If I turn the Airport Extreme off, it then only detects one network. How can that be, I mean no other machine gets confused with a WiFi having multiple access points?

Of course this isn't directly related to the AirPrint issue – if I go with only one access point, I still have to use the workaround to print from iOS7. But sometimes the Brother printer switches from one access point to the other, and then printing is impossible even with the Mac; I have to restart the printer, set up WiFi again like in the beginning (the two access points showing up as two networks have the same network name, so I have to guess which one is the right one), and then it works (it even prints a page with all network information every time I have to do this, grrr… I mean it has a touchscreen but still needs to print out information about the WiFi?).

When I showed that a friend of mine who works in IT, he just said: "well, Brother is a hardware company. They have no clue about software and certainly even less of an idea about networking…" Argh, I guess he is right – I've had Brother printers for years, but it seems I have to move on and get another machine… I mean Brother blaming Apple for this is really poor; if their machines aren't 100% compatible with Apple/AirPrint, they shouldn't advertise "compatible with AirPrint".

I have three access points to the house. They all set up with same name and password. I think the printer gets mixed up somehow. It happened again tonight . Everything fine once I unplug the closest access point then plug it back in.

Brother recently released firmware version 1.19 for HL-3150CDW that apparently fixes the AirPrint-Wakeup issue.

    --> Problem finally solved! :-)

andreas_from_PH you're a star. Also so glad I had e-mail notifications set up for this thread.

I had previously contacted Brother, who first asked me what router I had (BT Homehub 5), then proceeded to lay all the blame squarely on that. I knew this was bullsh*t but didn't have another router immediately available to test this and prove them wrong.

When I begrudgingly accepted their explanation of the problem, and asked them what the next step was - do they contact BT and explain the issue/work together to find a resolution with their homehubs - I was told that they do nothing like that, and I just had to live with it. Very unimpressed with their support.

Having said all that, I can confirm that this latest firmware 1.19 for my HL-3140CW laser printer has absolutely fixed the issue. When my printer goes into deep sleep, every single time I go to print something from an iOS device (iPhone 5, iPad Mini) the printer is always found. Wheras before this would be very hit and miss - usually miss.

Seems like the problem lay with them all along... funny that.

    Hi all,

After running thru many threads like that one, I found this one particularly clear and explicit.

    I am facing the "No AirPrint device found" issue;

I did update firmware to 1.19 5Sub1 version 1.04), but my Brother HL-3140CW remains invisible whenever goes to sleep mode.

I'm gonna need that lazy Sleeping Beauty to wake up...

Your help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Vincent

I recently had a similar problem with a Brother MFC-J870DW.  I tried deleting the Network configuration and restarting.  Chatted with Brother support but we could not get it printing via wifi from any device.  After reading this post I connected to the IP address of the printer using Safari.  It connected and then I updated the firmware from the menu via the browser.  For some reason this worked perfectly and now all devices and macs are printing.  Hope this helps.

    Fixed!

I had the same problem. My Brother HL-L2340DW wouldn't wake to print from my iMac, iPad or iPhone. But it's now fixed. Updating the firmware made the difference. Here how I did it:

    1. Used Safari to connect to the sleeping printer by going to http://192.168.1.46.
    2. Once my printer's HL-L2340D series web page had loaded, selected the Administrator tab.
    3. In the side bar at the left, selected Firmware Update.
    4. Noted that the Firmware Version was 1.09 and there was a New Firmware Version 1.10.
    5. Next to Firmware Update, there is a button labelled Update. Pressed that button. The web page confirmed that the update was in progress. The printer soon began flashing. After a few minutes the flashing stopped and the printer's LCD display showed Ready. In Safari, the web page confirmed Firmware update has been completed. The Firmware Version now showed 1.10.
    6. I can now print successfully from my iMac, iPad and iPhone. (Incidentally, on iOS I use Printer Pro5.4.2.0 from Readdle Inc.)

How did you manually wake the printer up?

Man, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I did the exact same thing, except used my IP address. I click on the "Check for new firmware" button and eventually it errors out and says there was a problem updating the firmware, turn the device off and on. I have, several times.)

I went to Brother's website and downloaded the firmware update. After a lengthy process trying to get it unzipped and installed, OSX stated that I needed a Java JDK. I went to the Java website and it's a 250mb file. What the heck?!?! I don't want to download a dev kit just so I can install a stupid printer firmware update. What is going on with Brother printers? This is unbelievable.

I even tried to do this over USB, no dice. Nadda. I'm so frustrated right now, at least I can print even if it means having to "wake up" the printer every time. Sheesh.

I had similar problems, but with the Brother HL-L2360DW. I connected it directly to my network with no problem. AirPrint worked *only* after I rebooted the printer, and even then, only the first time I tried printing from any mobile device (iPhone 6 plus, 6s or iPad Mini). Tried removing the network and reconnecting, no luck. Tried updating drivers, no luck.

Finally tried updating the firmware via Brother's firmware updater. This did the trick. Is now working perfectly from all devices, regardless of the printer's ready/sleep/deep sleep state. I didn't need to download the Java JDK, probably because I already need it for Photoshop (thanks, Adobe!).

    Hi

i just found a solution after a lot of failed trials

ipv6 should be enabled on the printer setup

you can access the printer setup by typing its IP address on your webbrowser

    For me

    http://192.168.0.36/net/wireless/ipv6.html

I  tried everything before that (firmware / Dns / dhcp / ip /...)

Nothing worked until I enabled the ipv6

    was getting very frustrated

hopefully it works for you too

Thanks Sly-canada, enabling IPv6 (just ticking the box in network/wireless/IPv6 tab as per screenshot below) worked for my brand new Brother MFC-J4620DW printer.

    Screen Shot 11-07-15 at 05.14 PM.JPG

My symptoms and network setup are a mix of what I have seen in the posts before and as I do not have a clue why the solution worked, I thought to share them for completeness.

I have a 2 wireless access points that have the same SSID to cover the whole house, both access points have 5GHz and 2.4GHz bandwidth enabled.

When I initially set up the printer to the wireless network, airprint worked for a few minutes and then the printer was no longer listed in my iphone and ipad.

I got printing via wifi working without any issues on my Windows 7 64bit laptop  and the printer was solid available during my afternoon of fixing the airprint dropping away.

All seems to be fine working now, laptop printing, airprint from iOS devices. Happy me.

Thank you so much for posting this fix! I struggled with what seems to be similar problems other users had and tried multiple fixes and this finally solved the problem for me! I have been able to print multiple jobs wirelessly without experiencing any problems!
