Q: Very slow wifi downloads from app store

Since updating to 8.4.0 and then 8.4.1 apps from the app store take FOREVER to download over wifi. They work just fine downloading with the cellular network, but this eats up data. Help.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4.1

Same thing is happening with Apple Music. With wifi the music doesn't play continuously, it stops and starts. With cellular it play as it should.

Try rebooting your router. Unplug it for about 15 seconds.

Its because you're on CenturyLink.  Apple is not the problem in this case. It's CenturyLink internet service, and they refuse to acknowledge and fix the problem. I suggest you go to their facebook page and voice your displeasure until they fix it.  I can't download anything from the itunes store, app store, or any updates through my CenturyLink Wifi router.  Any other ISP or when I'm on data connection from my cell phone service, it works.  But not on WIFI with CenturyLink.

I've been experiencing this as well. My wife downloads apps just fine via our home WiFi using her Samsung Galaxy S6. I use an Asus Router w/ Tomato firmware -- ISP is Oceanic Cable.

It's not CenturyLink, I have never heard of them until now.  I have AT&T Uverse and, in my case downloads from the app store are slow on wifi and cellular.  My cellular provider is Verizon.

I am having the same problem. It's true for the iOS and OSX app stores across all my devices on work network, home network, and Verizon. I hope they get this resolved soon because it's pretty frustrating.

I Am having the same problem. I did not do the update, and am still at 8.4.0 on my iPad 4. The problem did begin around the time the update began to be offered, so I was thinking that it was because I did not do the update ~ but I guess not, since some of you who updated are experiencing the same issue. I have tried powering off and also the power/ home reboot. It isn't my connection speed, because I am able to stream videos with no problem. I am stumped.

I'm having the same issue on ATT Uverse.  I've cycled my modem and my router.  Seeing this tells me Apple has done something they didn't account for.  I almost bought another router to address this.  Thank goodness I found this post. @apple please address!

I'm in the same situation. Download speeds are terrible on my iPhone 5s and iPad 3 using WiFi, but no issues at all using cellular service. I have updated to 8.4.1, but was experiencing the slow downloads before updating as well; I have CableOne internet with 50mb download speeds. Anyone found a solution to the issue yet?

I found a solution that works for me, I changed the DNS server addresses on my home network to Open DNS, 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.  Everything is working perfectly now.
