Are you sure you have the right camera identifier?
The Canon USA website does not find the model number you post:
Perhaps you mean the Kodak Z7590?
If so, the instructions here tell you that you can import photos to your Mac simply by connecting the camera via USB. Depending on which you prefer, you should be able to import using your iPhoto, Photos, Preview, or Image Capture application.
For complete info on the Kodak Z7590, you can download the camera's User Guide here.
Note that the Kodak Z7590's specification show that it supports only JPEG Image File Formats.
RAW format is not mentioned for the Kodak Z7590, so you need not worry about RAW support for this camera.

(1) Did you try opening the files in Preview? If opening all at once does not work in Preview either, try opening only one image file.
If one image file opens, save it before opening the next.
If Preview will not do this, try opening one image in iMage Capture and testing to see if you can save it. If you can, repeat for the other 11 image files.
(2) Did you try importing with iPhoto as directed in the camera's User Guide instructions I linked in my initial response?
(3) If you cannot make any of the above apps work, open the camera iCon you see on your Mac's desktop. Then use Mac's Finder to (drag) copy the image files from the camera's image folder to the location you want to store them on your Mac.

To "refine the responses", if you need to post back for more help, please tell us:
(a) what you want to do with your image files once they are on your iMac; i.e., simply backup the camera files,
edit the image filess, organize them into a visual image database, share the files, etc.
(b) what app you want to use to accomplish the purpose you identified in (a) above.
We will try to offer more specific suggestions based on the details you provide.

Aug 18, 2015 10:25 AM in response to EZ Jimby judger,Not sure where I am at here. But I cannot get Image Capture to load the pictures from my Kodak Z7590 camera like the old Windows Kodak software does. I want to get away from the Windows XP Parallels virtual machine necessary to upload the pictures from my camera.
Regarding iPhoto, I have a version from 2008 when I bought my iMac but I have never used it and there is no free version on the app store.
I may be wrong but several of your solutions seem to imply that the images are already ON MY iMac. Not true. I can't load them to my iMac with any app/utility I am aware of.
Maybe if I answered your questions that you posed in your last reply, I might be able to more accurately redefine my problem.
First, as stated above, I have NOT been successful in loading the picture files onto my iMac disk from the camera.
In answer to your questions:

(a) what you want to do with your image files once they are on your iMac; i.e., simply backup the camera files,
edit the image filess, organize them into a visual image database, share the files, etc.
My purpose is to load the camera pictures onto my iMac and then to store them into appropriate picture folders that have a primary genealogy purpose and also as a digital equivalent of the old picture albums some of us older folks might remember.
(b) what app you want to use to accomplish the purpose you identified in (a) above.
For the purpose of viewing and in some cases editing the original pictures for email attachments or to "improve" my lack of picture taking skills, I use the Picasa app on the iMac to improve/edit pictures. On rare occasions I might even select pictures for print or to be processed by WalMart or another photo processor.
EZ Jim, I appreciate your assistance. Whereas, I am quite accomplished with computers, apps and software development, I have done little on my iMac other than use it like many other novices since I gave up on Windows so I am not all that familiar with apps and utilities there. I hope that my further explanations above are helpful and I thank you for your advice.

Your new (refined) info shows you do not need iPhoto. However, should you ever decide to do so, launch it like any other app.
Once the app is open, iPhoto Help will give you the info you need to use the app:
You need not have downloaded the Mac App Store's iPhoto installation, either to use the app or to update it.
You can update to the latest compatible iPhoto by using an Apple Supports Download Search for iPhoto Updates.
judger wrote: ... several of your solutions seem to imply that the images are already ON MY iMac...
Although you seem to have so inferred, none of my suggestions imply that images already be on your Mac. If you can connect your camera by USB cable, Mac's Finder should be able to find and access the files on the camera's memory.
judger wrote:...purpose is to load the ... pictures onto my iMac and then to store them in... picture folders...
You should be able to do this using nothing more than Mac's Finder.
Close every app, restart your Mac, connect your camera to iMac via USB cable, and power on your Camera.
(ì) Do you then see a new iCon for your camera or its memory appear on your desktop? If you do, double clicking the iCon should open a new Finder window. Your jpg image files should be in one of the folders inside the Finder window that opened. Then the jpg files can be copied to any folder you can see with your Mac's Finder, and you have accomplished your intended purpose. Unless......
(ii) If you do NOT see the new iCon appear on your desktop, turn off your camera and disconnect it.
Then check that your iMac's Finder > Preferences... General "desktop" boxes contain checkmarks as shown in the image below:
Now restart your Mac, reconnect your camera and power it on, and look for the iCon again.

iF you mean some version of "Picasa", the Finder process for copying files from your camera to a location in your Mac is completely compatible.

Aug 19, 2015 11:58 AM in response to EZ Jimby judger,EZ Jim, thank you for your efforts. I have verified that my Finder preferences are correct. I restarted the iMac and then connected the Z7590 and with no apps running the Finder did NOT find the camera.
I then went into both Image Capture and Picasa and both had the following error when I attempted to import any picture file from the camera:
Import error (-9912)
Seems to me that Kodak has some proprietary hokes pokes that is preventing any imports without their Windows app. I do not think that they ever supported Apple with their app.
Sounds like I am stuck with my old Windows XP Parallels virtual machine until I replace the camera, right?
Thank you again. I greatly appreciate your support.
PS: When I tried to update my 2008 version of iPhoto with both an update file fixer and a version 9.4.x, I got Adobe Reader errors. Guess I will give up on that too since I always use Picasa and never have used the Apple app.

judger wrote:... error when I attempted to import any picture file ...: Import error (-9912)
Does your camera have a (MMC or SD) memory card installed?
If you have an external USB memory card reader, have you tried reading the cards from the reader?
Do you have important image files stored on the card that have not been backed up or saved to a computer other media?
If possible, have you tried formatting the card (or the camera's internal memory), making a couple of test images, and trying to import the new images using Kodak's transfer instructions for Mac OS?

Aug 20, 2015 12:36 PM in response to EZ Jimby judger,EZ Jim, I suspect from Google searches I get a strong impression that the Import error (-9912) is really an OS X 10.10.3 problem that has NOT been fixed. For now, I think that I will put this on the back burner.
Thank you again for your efforts and support, EZ Jim. :-))))

Before you do that, please try the following:
Repair permissions and restart your computer. If after doing that you are still unable to transfer your pics from the cam to your comp do the following:
Answer EZ Jim's question
If you have an external USB memory card reader, have you tried reading the cards from the reader?
If you have not already done so, you need to read the user manual that came w/the cam, call Kodak and/or visit their tech support website which is quite extensive.
Kodak's transfer instructions for Mac OS which EZ Jim previously linked.
**I also have a Kodak EasyShare cam which is a different model than yours but works the same way as yours. Even though I never had the same problems as you are having, I strongly suggest that you use a usb card reader. It's the easiest way to go. In my personal opinion, the only way to go. If your model iMac has a SD slot, use that too!
GOOD LUCK!

Aug 20, 2015 2:42 PM in response to Baby Boomer (USofA)by judger,Baby Boomer, thank you for your additional comments. I did go to Disk Utility and verified and corrected some permissions. I then went back into Image Capture and got the same -9912 error and no imported pictures.
Since I do not have a memory card reader and do not wish to pull cards from my camera to load them onto my iMac, I am back to my hope that it is a problem in OS X 10.10.3 and there is a chance that Apple will fix it in the future. After all, that app does recognize my specific camera but it just will not import from it gracefully.
Thank you again. :-)))

Any reason why you are not considering updating to OS 10.10.5?
Have you checked w/Kodak re updated drivers and/or firmware? Have you contacted Kodak at all?
Apple will fix it in the future
Don't hold your breath. It is up to the 3rd party to keep up w/Apple. Kodak is a 3rd party hardware vendor/manufacturer. You will need to confirm w/them yourself if there is a conflict between your model cam & the current version of Yosemite (which you do not have according to your profile).

Aug 20, 2015 4:22 PM in response to Baby Boomer (USofA)by judger,OS X 10.10.5 is Beta. No way! My iMac has to work. No testing for me.
Both of you imply that Kodak has support for this or any digital camera. I believe that they stopped making digital cameras in 2012 per the WikiPedia article on their cameras.
According to a CNET spec definition for the Z7590 Kodak:
System Requirements for PC Connection
Operating System Support Apple Mac OS X 10.2.3 - 10.2.8, Apple Mac OS X 10.3,
And:
Image Recording Format JPEG
I am just not informed enough as to why the images cannot be imported other than an OS X bug.

Not sure who told you that, but it is untrue. Go to the AppStore & click on the Update tab. There you will see OS 10.10.5.
I am just not informed enough as to why the images cannot be imported other than an OS X bug.
It is not an OS X bug. See below
Both of you imply that Kodak has support for this or any digital camera.
We are not implying. Just stating the facts. Please click on the links that we both posted for you. You can see for yourself. You can call Kodak tech support.
As for system requirements, always go by the requirements stated directly from the manufacturer/vendor. After all, it is their product!

Int he beginning, you mentioned that your images were in RAW format? Is that correct? If so, this may be your answer:
Digital camera RAW formats supported by OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
There are certain models whose RAW output is supported by OS X/iPhoto/Aperture/Photos. It appears that your Kodak is not among them. Can you get them into a .jpeg format within the camera?
