I am having the same issue. I've had the watch for 3 weeks and the last two days the screen has become progressively unresponsive and failing to show information.
Like you I have done all the suggested things and now about to take it back and demand a replacement.
When you spend a considerable amount for something and it is failing within the month it isn't good. I am an Apple die-hard but this is testing this loyalty
Will let you know how I go

My watch was sent for repair to an off-site repair center(Apple stores do not do Apple Watch troubleshooting and repairs on site). After three days, I got it back and the issue was not completely resolved. I got a new apple watch to replace the defective unit. The new one works very smooth thus far.
My advise is to make sure you test it right away after you get your watch back. And if you see any continuing glitches ask them to replace it. Clearly, we have gotten defective units.

I documented the case on my blog and actually took a short video showing the issue if some are interested to compare. I hope this is not a developing trend where watch touch screen are going bad over time:

Aug 19, 2015 6:44 PM in response to R.O.K.by KEG42,I had the very same issue. But it would come and go. I also noticed that when the the watch did show apps when i touched the crown, the apps jerked when touched.
It seemed to get better the next day after charging. But it started to respond poorly to touch again in the afternoon. I am pretty disappointed.

I have some mixed feelings so far. 1st, they claim they could not reproduce the problem... but the guy at the Genius bar clearly saw it... so this is puzzling. Either it fixed itself by magic or they are not 100% true about that. Perhaps they don't want to acknowledge this type of issue... strange.
Anyway, they did a full reinstall back to Watch OS 1.0.1... so you can understand from that statement that the watch was not running 1.0.1 when it was in the broken state... and you understand that as a developer I can't write stuff about stuff I can't write about ;-) Perhaps this is even too much written about that.
So, right now the watch is charging (it came back dead) and I am restoring my last known good backup of watchos 1.0.1 on it. So far the screen is indeed responding properly to touch... so this is also interesting. Perhaps this is something in the OS that totally goes bad due to some bug and is causing the touch screen to not respond properly... even if one does a full watch reset and start back at the 1st setup level like I tried.
I hope this is informative and will help you make sense of what is going on here... but so far it appear to be a very annoying software glitch. I will report back if the problem ever return.

I could barely enter the passcode after taking the watch from the charger. But after that it sort of got better but you can tell it is not properly responding all the time to input. Perhaps this is a case of the watch getting bad as it get hot? I really don't know anymore. Software? Hardware? I think at this point it is probably a hardware issue.

Aug 21, 2015 8:31 PM in response to bmaltaisby bmaltais,OK, last update for the night. I hope I am not boring you guys but hopefully this will help others if we get to the bottom of this issue.
I called Apple Care and after discussing the issue I performed another watch reset using the Watch application on my iPhone. The 1st time I did that was by using the Settings options directly on the watch. So far touch has, again, been restored on the watch. This time I chose not to restore my old backup in case there is something in there that is the cause of all this.
I will report back about how this goes. So far, 30 + minutes after the reset, all is as smooth as butter on the watch. No missed input on the screen at all... yeah! Keeping fingers crossed.

Aug 22, 2015 10:29 AM in response to bmaltaisby bmaltais,OK. I called Apple care again and a watch replacement has been arranged. A box will be shipped to me so I can return the watch and eventually get a replacement back. This is too bad we can't go to an Apple store to pickup a replacement. Good thing I made those videos as they got added to the case as evidence of what is going on.
I am starting to think that perhaps my watch, being part of the early manufacturing cycle, contain some faulty components. Most probably one of the sensor or simply the digitizer chip. Perhaps, over time, those faulty components are developing issues causing what I captured in video? The issue is not severe enough to kill the watch but just enough to make the OS react in an odd way.

I have had my watch for a few months now and only 2 days ago it did exactly the same thing your watch was doing. I tried many hard reboots and nothing would work. I should also point out that mine, when it gets twitchy like that, it connects to my phone wit airplane mode ON in the watch!!
Anyway the watch only started to respond better (but not perfectly) back to touch input is when the battery drained out completely and I didby recharge till several hours later. Unfortunately the issue is still there, just not as bad.

Oct 23, 2015 6:28 AM in response to shamma1977by bmaltais,Thank. I actually never received a replacement watch. Apple just sent me back the watch saying nothing was wrong with it. At that point it has been working fine ever since... so either they did something to it or somehow a possible water induced issue fixed itself after water evaporated after a few weeks. Remember, i had been swimming in the ocean the day the issue started... so I am starting to think that the pressure of ocean waves hitting me and the watch (even if I was only swimming on top and never diving) might have induced this issue? Have you been swimming with your watch by any chance?
Any way, the watch is fine now so... I am no longer wearing my watch in the shower on in a pool. I have lost trust that it is actually water resistant.
