Q: Full screen video shows transparent menu bar on top

Hello guys,

I have a weird problem.

I have my iMac Retina display hooked up to my TV through an HDMI adaptor. The TV is setup as a second monitor with its own space.

Whenever I run a full screen video on safari, the icons to the right of the menu bar always show through the video. Also, the mouse pointer never disappears. This is very annoying and I can't seem to avoid it.

This only seems to affect safari though. Sadly, I'm using a video service that works best on safari so I would really like to find a solution.

I'm running the latest version of Yosemite.

This only seems to affect my TV. If I run full screen video on my iMac, the issue is non existent.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or work around you guys can give.

I've attached an image of the issue.

Thanks!

    Hello Mavalos88,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that when using your TV as a second display, you continuously see the menu bar and mouse cursor while viewing a full screen video.

To begin troubleshooting, I would first suggest reading over the attached article below, specifically the Arranging your displays section. I would suggest setting up your computer and TV without mirroring as shown in the images from the article. With this setup, you will be able to move the menu bar away from the TV and place it on the computer display and also be able to move your mouse away from the TV to the computer as well.

The white bar at the top of the blue box represents the menu bar. Drag the white bar onto the blue box representing the display you want as your primary display.

    Have a great day

    Hello,

I've done what you suggested. The only way to get the menu bar to disappear is to uncheck the "Displays have separate spaces" under the mission control menu. Sadly this doesn't work for me because when I try to play a full screen video on the second monitor, it plays on the main one.

    Thanks
