Q: encountering severe problems trying to get the os X update to install properly. The  update page is showing it installed ten times yet it is still showing as an available update. HELP!

Apple update is telling me that I have an update to OS X 10.10.5. The update page on the Apple store is saying it has been updated ten times yet it is still showing as an available update. What do I do or how can I uninstall all the repeat updates?

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

This procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by system processes. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    /var/folders/zz

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder named "zz" selected. Move that subfolder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

The problem has recurred. That same update is now showing as available again, despite showing having been installed multiple times.

you could try the combo update from here, Apple - Support - Downloads

to check if updates have been installed go to About This Mac, click System Report, click Software and then Installations.

I tried downloading the update from Apple support. When I then tried to install it I get the message that it can't be installed because the target drive does not meet the requirements for the update. There is plenty of space on my drive so I am quite perplexed.

Finally. I managed to complete the update. The problem seems to have been that the previous update, 10.10.4 had not installed so I manually downloaded that update, installed it and then was able to do the 10.10.5 update. Thanks to everyone for the help!
