Q: Mac OS X wants to use the "System" keychain - after Outlook password change
Yesterday I updated my Exchange server password in accordance with my corporate password policies.
Virtually immediately upon updating the password in Outlook 2011 Mountain Lion started throwing up the password prompt:
Mac OS X wants to use the "System" keychain
Typing my admin level username and password and clicking allow clears the issue until I do anything different in Outlook - switch messages, reply, forward, check for new, etc...
Since it was coincidental with the new password in Exchange/Outlook and the icon on the lock is the Outlook icon I presume the two to be related.
To try and resolve I have
- updated Outlook/Office to 14.3.7 as of today,
- I have verified and repaired my Keychain with no change,
- rebooted and applied the 10.8.5 update today (Mountain Lion updated after the problem began so not related and no fix)
If I open Keychain Access and manually unlock the System keychain the issue goes away.
I had this problem once several months ago (again likely coincidental with the quarterly password change in Exchange) and I don't recall exactly what resolved the issue, but I recall it involved locking/unlocking the System keychain.
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
