Q: iTunes cannot restore my ipad

Hi

Ok today I tried to update my iPad and something has gone seriously wrong.

I tried to first upgrade the iPad Air 2 (Its only two weeks old) to the latest version, was only one version behind. The iPad was connected to an iMAc with latest version of Yosemite and iTunes.

The initial update failed, cant remember the error it gave me but basically the iPad was wiped and I was told to then restore it. At this point the iPad does not boot but is detected by iTunes and I get the connect cable to itunes icons on the ipad.

I have tried the points set out at: Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes - Apple Support and basically iTunes starts the restore but the progress bar gets only about 10% in (Apple logo on iPad and corresponding progress amount) and then after that nothing happens, even after been connected for an hour.

Is there anyway to get this sorted?

Many thanks

John

    Hi

Have you got the latest itunes on your PC 12.2

    Turn ipad OFF

Connect lead to USB on PC

Press & hold power button on iPad Don't let go

Connect lead to iPad keep power button pressed down until PC

    Sees iPad .

    Wait for Restore .

You may need to do this a few times before it works.

    Cheers

Hi Brian cheers for your response.

Tried this twice with same result, shown as screen shots below.

    iTunes is latest version.

I Followed your steps (Power button as opposed to Home button)

Got the following windows in order of appearance:

    Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 16.32.34.png

    Clicked restore

    Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 16.32.43.png

Chose Restore and Update - This then went through the motions of a progress bar for a minute or two and then:

Last error makes no sense to me as Apple designates this as an issue with the USB, yet it was detected, see: Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

    Check your USB connections

    Errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4005, 4013, 4014. You might also see a message that includes "invalid response."

If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you might not be able to update or restore.

To narrow down the issue, try different equipment:

If you still see the error message, check for hardware issues.

It is plugged in, 6 times I had to repeat like Brian mentioned and then it got detected.

Now it says Restoring iPad software, although stuck at 10%, guessing this will take a while even if it is a factory restore.
