    Hi there Tshwenyego,

It sounds like you are unable to update your Mac because of this error message that it cannot connect to the update server. I would recommend that you use the troubleshooting and information in the following article to help you get that resolved. If nothing else there is also a link in there to download the updates manually:

OS X: Server addresses used by Software Update

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    hi Brett,

My main problem might be the fact that I did not use the machine for a long time. I tried to add the servers you indicated on your mail and even though it is faster now it still cannot connect to them

Thanks for the update! Next I would startup in Safe Mode which removes and recreates some system level caches, as well as performs a disk check to help resolve issues with system services.

OS X Yosemite: Start up in safe mode

    1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.

    2. After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.

    3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.

You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.

    4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac again, but don’t hold down any keys during startup.

Then leave Safe Mode and try updating again.
