Q: Auto deletion of photos in trash

I just upgraded to Yosemite and the new Photo app.  I am stunned that the "new" Photo app will permanently delete all my photos in "trash" within one month.  I keep these photos but just not in my active library.  I have plenty of storage space on my computer, am not using iCloud, and Apple is telling me that I can't keep my photos on my computer?  The only way I can keep these photos will be to purchase massive amounts of storage space on iCloud.  something is wrong here.

I want to export all the images in my "trash" to an external drive but the program will not let me do that unless I recover photos back into my library.

This app is flawed.  The user should be able to determine whether they want to keep "deleted" photos on their computer.

Trash should not be used as temporary storage. That is why it is called "Trash."

How one manages things on their personal computer is up to the owner of the computer, not Apple.

I completely concur with Kappy that the way you want to use Trash is flawed and not the software.

If you want something that is almost trash then create then create a folder called Almost Trash and place those photos in it. When you decide that they truly are trash then and only then move them to Trash.

Not in this case.  It's also the exact same on the iPhones.

If you want a holding cell for photos to be deleted create an album for that.

Or maybe 'soon to be trash", "almost trash", "trash I really want", trash I really do not want" and "really trash but save it" etc

This comes up occasionally where for weird reasons someone want to use the trash for storage - and the answer with Photos is that you can not - "People in **** want Ice water" and "you can't use Photos Trash for long term storage" - I find it amazing arrogant that anyone actually believes that every thing in the world should be exactly the way they think it should be or they will get outraged - I do not know how one can live a life like that

Oh Well - it does take all kinds
