If you rented the movie on your iOS device or Apple TV, you can’t move it to any other device.

Aug 22, 2015 6:15 PM in response to Elizabeth_922by Phil0124,Netflix, adjusts video streaming quality based on your connection. So it may be able to continue playing if your connection is not good enough.
iTunes does not do this. On an Apple TV you rent in HD unless you specifically set a different quality in settings. If your internet connection is not fast enough to stream HD, then you will get pauses and buffering.
As I said, you cannot transfer the movie off the Apple Tv.
You can go into settings, Network, and perform a network test to see of your connection is fast enough for Apple Tv.
