It sounds like you have your movie rental on your iPad and want to stream it to your Apple TV to watch on your television. According to this article you should be able to do that with AirPlay:
About renting movies from the iTunes Store
You can also stream a rented movie from your computer or your iOS device to your Apple TV using AirPlay after it’s fully downloaded.
If for some reason you cannot then use this article to help troubleshoot AirPlay on your iPad.

Aug 23, 2015 6:23 PM in response to joe_7399by spud7245,thanks for the response. However, the 'air-play' icon does not appear on my
iPad when I play the movie. It does appear when I plan an Amazon Prime or
Amazon rented movie but not when I purchase an iTunes movie. It does seem
odd that an apple product does not support an apple purchase but an apple
product does support an Amazon purchase. maybe the message is to just stop
using apple and switch all movie watching to the amazon choices with the
amazon new fire tv.....wonder if that works better than apple ?

Aug 23, 2015 7:17 PM in response to spud7245by vazandrew,Airplay does work with rentals, but it won't work unless it's fully downloaded to the device. Note: a rental is not a purchase, it is only a fee to view the film for a specified time and thus it won't be available in the cloud.

So, you say that airplay needs to be 'fully downloaded'. That would
presuppose there is a lesser download than full. When I performed the
download there was nothing to indicate to me that there was anything but a
full download that would be completed. I have used airplay multiple times
with other rented movies from Amazon with success. I also understand the
difference between a rental fee and a purchase. All I want is the Apple
products to work seamless with Apple products and services. If my iPad
does not have a full version of airplay where would one discover that a
limited version exists on my iPad? and how would one go about correcting
the issue and obtaining a 'full' version of airplay?

Aug 24, 2015 2:37 PM in response to spud7245by vazandrew,No, it means the download needs to be completed and the film has to fully reside on the iPad. If it is still downloading it will not work. This is also outlined in the support article linked above. You have referred to this in previous posts as a purchase, which it is not. Amazon prime is a streaming service. It is not a good idea to leave personal information on a public forum.
