Q: iPhone music app freezing, throwing me out, misbehaving

This is on an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS 8.4.1 as of today, running the music app with an account for the family. As I'm browsing and listening to music, the app threw me out after an hour or so complaining about an authentication failure, unable to log me in. Quitting and restarting the app didn't work. Getting to the iTunes and app store section was impossible as the settings app would freeze when I pressed this menu item. Rebooting the phone got it working.

I am seeing the app misbehaving at irregular intervals, with the screen just going blank with no music list or albums, but it doesn't stop playing what's already on.

At other times, selecting a song doesn't play it. The app appears to "think" about it for a while and simply gives up. Retrying 4-5 times gets it playing.

There's really no problem with my WiFi or net connection and I'm on a 200Mbps fibre line here. Just to test, spotify worked just fine with no glitches.

Are there any tips & tricks you have used to resolve these problems?

I am having the exact same issue. I am also getting the screen to sign up for Apple Music. Which is weird.

I'm going to restore of my phone to factory settings, and see if that works.

I restored my phone and it lasted about a day before I had to restart it to unfreeze the music app

I have the same problem with my 6 Plus (64gb). I don't have to reboot my phone, turning it off and on again works, but after some hours, the same happens again. As you have described, Apple music doesn't stream (play doesn't work), iTunes and App Store don't download content, settings get stuck at itunes and app store/music menus, sometimes safari doesn't refresh high-density pages... Moreover, seems like any apple ID-related apps which need content to be downloaded get stuck too. Examples: Apple Store app, iBooks, Podcasts, Game Centre, iTunes U...

It's quite awful. Besides, I've restored my phone (as new instead of using a backup) twice, once directly from settings, an after from iTunes... Doesn't work. After some hours the this bug happens again. I've just tried to turn Apple Music off and on again, for now works fine, let's see if it keeps going... Anyway, I agree on what someone above said: seems like a problem with Apple ID detection for certain parts of the system. Even though it has an easy solution, it's a big deal which is not supposed to be on a final version... Seems more like a beta one. Hope Apple team work that out soon. Ending words: it seems like an iphone 6/6+ thing...

My iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus both have gone haywire after updated to 8.4.1. Apple Music, iTunes Store, and their setting pages freeze 80 % of the time. Quitting apps solves this sometimes but otherwise I need to hold home+power again.

I signed both devices to iOS 9 Public Beta yesterday - work perfectly on there. Just now, I downgrade testing the iPad back to iOS 8.4.1 and now it freezes like no tomorrow again (made sure iTunes downloads the file again, instead of extracting the previous copy). Apple support has no answer to the issue, except a visit to the genius bar..

I guess I will stay on public beta until this is fixed, unless there is an obvious solution?

#Already backed up all my iTunes purchase files and CD rips in case it messes up my iCloud Music library again..

Same issues here. Backed up, restored and it worked for awhile then stopped. iPhone 5s with 8.4.1. Signed up for Apple music trial right when it launched and things worked fine for me. Latest update or weirdness on Apple backend seems to make it appear like my phone becomes unauthorized for the service.

Restarting phone seems to clear the problem but after 40 minutes or so, streaming stops and there is a screen asking be to join Apple Music. Very frustrating.

My Apple Music has stopped freezing up, the For You, New and Radio functions are working - for now.  However, when I try to enable the iCloud library, I am still getting the "iCloud library cannot be enabled at this time" error message.  I think I have flipped that switch a hundred times.  This all started when I signed out of and back into Apple Music.  Because it was continually freezing up.  I am thinking I may have to do a restore, or wait for iOS 9.  Will see what the genius bar has to say.

Having same issues as everyone has detailed in this post. I restored by device and having the issues. As someone as pointed out, i think its a service issue not a bug in the software. Its odd, bc its only affecting a small number of people.

After spending a good bit of time on the phone with Apple support yesterday, I took their advice to go through a factory restore and it seems to have resolved the problems (so far). Prior to the restore, for the past couple of days, out of nowhere, my iTunes and Podcast app, as well as the settings menu that deal with music and the app store would continually freeze up on me and if it was while listening to a podcast it would never remember my place when I restarted it.

It's important that you go through the restore that reinstalls iOS rather than just restoring from a backup. Follow these steps:

    1. Backup your device to your computer
    2. While it is plugged into your computer, press and hold the power and home button. Keep holding them after the Apple logo appears (for approximately 10 more seconds) and it will go into restore mode, showing the icon of the cable on the phone and in your iTunes it will prompt you that a device needs to be restored.
    3. Choose the "Restore" option (not "Update")
    4. This will reinstall the iOS on your device from a clean copy. When it completes, your device will show the "Hello" screen. Keep it plugged in and follow the prompts to enable location services, enter your iTunes account information, etc.
    5. You will then be prompted to restore the device from a backup, with the default showing the most recent backup.
    6. Choose this and then go get something to eat. If you have as many apps as I do (300+), it's going to take up to an hour to restore...

For now, the freezing seems to have stopped. I have used this same process in the past when a faulty update caused corruption on my iPad 2 and turned it into a brick. Since the factory restore, it's been great. I'm starting to think that running a restore like this once or twice a year may be the best way to keep the devices operating in a clean way...

Exactly the same here, iPhone 5S and iPad 4, freezes all the time even when looking at my settings.

Same issue on my iPhone 6 since I've upgraded to 8.4.1. Titles don't play even though it looks as they would, re-registration invitation even though I'm registered, settings app freezes when I try to access Music tab ...

I'm wondering how long it'll take till Apple drives me to Android ... oops, did I really say that ...?

After resetting my iPhone several times, I've managed to log out and back in to Apple Music again. Now all my playlists are gone ...

Make sure iCloud Music Library is turned back on. I've noticed that if AM is disabled, then re-enabled the default option is off.

For those that are using apple music on multiple devices with same apple id/apple music account.

Try sign out of all your devices and restart devices and then sign in again...

This helped me out. Everything is normal again.
