I deleted IPhoto before I downloade "Photo". Now, I don't know where to get IPhoto back or even what to do
Why did you delete it? (and did you also delete the iPhoto Library)
This is how to get it back:
Go to the Mac App Store, go to your Purchases page, if you previously purchased iPhoto it will be there, it will be the correct version so just install it again from that page.

Aug 24, 2015 7:16 AM in response to Csound1by normandfromvalleyfield,GOOD IDEA! But, I screwed up. I deleted all the IPhotos files etc... before downloading photo. I have many pictures and they are all on an external drive. I am 84 yrs old and not very good on computers but I love them, they are my pastime. Do you have any idea how I should proceed?

Aug 24, 2015 7:30 AM in response to normandfromvalleyfieldby Csound1,Lets try to find out what you did.
1. In the Applications folder there is (or was) an app called iPhoto, did you delete that
2. In the Pictures folder there is (or was) a folder called the iPhoto Library, did you delete that
Other deletions have no relevance here.

Aug 24, 2015 7:34 AM in response to normandfromvalleyfieldby nicbarker,If you go into the App store and click on "Purchased" it may appear there - if so you can download it again.

Thanks for posting that again.

The unpolished and apparent direction the newer software has taken, seems to be indicative
of the rest of these new developments where you cannot go forward from anything done well
in the past, as a bridge into the future. New on-the-job trainees could produce the kinds of
effects we've been seeing in these unusually un-Apple software 'upgrade' issues. Are they?
The unsuspecting should be forewarned, to not give up their old computer, or device, and if
they want to upgrade to a newer system, get a new device configuration with that included.
I've not totally migrated, and still rely mostly on PPC system configurations from pre- 10.6.
Some users of Mavericks who bought a new-old-stock clearance product from Apple online,
find the included iPhoto is not considered a 'Purchase' in the App Store. It was offered ever
so briefly along with Yosemite as an upgrade, so those who were ready to install all of that
over their Mavericks, could have upgraded past 10.9.5 and received 10.10.x with iPhoto.
The upgrade option vaporized without any formal or informal announcement, so those who
failed to upgrade to Yosemite before April 2015 could not get that version iPhoto upgrade.
With a dual internal hard drive system, factory, I'd hoped to set up a second OS X on the other
HDD; and not use a clone of the Mavericks, to have a clean and full upgrade of all the included
Apps (from April, iPhoto is missing from that list) so as to see how Yosemite worked. I did not
get requested information from any expert about how to be sure the upgrade would end up in
the second HDD and not contaminate the first as-shipped OS X. + I have a clearance special...
This, my first new hardware upgrade in more than 10 years. Another case of buyer remorse;
and that is unacceptable to me, since I usually have keen sense of 'pre-buyer remorse' and
avoid these kinds of mistakes early on. My 'best inner voice' has been proven right, again...!
And I know I could've done better than spend $1K on a headless horseman quad Mini.
K
You nailed it! AGAIN!
Wait for your email notice containing "We understand wanting to share experiences, but these forums are meant for technical questions...."
If folks need a stable, Professional, predictable, image management and editing app, they should probably consider 'buying' one. PhotoShop Suite of Apps comes to mind -
A 'learning curve' is expected with any new app - lest folks forget, iPhoto was NEW at one time and required learning its features and functions.
Learn and grow.....

What does that have to do with the fact that iPhoto is still available for use after you upgrade to 10.10.3. If you don't like the way Photos works then you don't have to use it.
I think part of the confusion is that we all see the writing on the wall.
I suspect after El Capitan the next major MacOS will not run iPhoto very well at all, and perhaps eliminate some of the functionality like email and phonebooks, etc. This will compel people to migrate out of their comfort zones.
We've all been there (AppleWorks, Wordperfect and many, many others).
Standalone media apps like iPhoto are dinosaurs in the multi-device, constant media availability paradigm.
Kudos for being so insightful. One word may help others focus = QuickTime = system level digital video standard that can only be mimicked. (don't get me started on QT X)
If we use our Macs as a TOOL - not a TOY - thinking about and planning for the future is part of our responsibility to maintain continuity in our Business Processes.
From Apple's perspective, they must cater to their greatest common demographic. Historically, that has been the design/media production professional, with science and business following closely. Today, the installed base is consumer, not professional. If one needs Pro Apps, get 'em. Apple has many fine media apps for Pros - just not for images.

Aug 26, 2015 8:19 AM in response to Old Toadby Melinda4870,I do not see a place to delete photos from my device after loading them into Photo. I cannot sent photos using my mail app from Photo. Overall, I am displeased with the "upgrade" to Photo. This is not an app for professionals to use either. If I just want a place to store a bunch of photos, I can put them in a folder; don't need an app to do that. Very very frustrated with this addition. I have been a mac user since 1984 and love my macs but don't much like this "update."

Aug 26, 2015 8:24 AM in response to Melinda4870by babowa,There really is no need to use it - I ignore it completely. I use Aperture. Photoshop Elements, Image Tricks, and Graphic Converter instead. And yes, I have my photos categorized (many subfolders) and stored in a folder.
