Q: 8.4.1 iOS Update battery draining quickly & overheating

Hi, I've recently noticed with this new update that my battery is draining very quickly with little or no use. It started when I came home from work my iPhone was on 1% and as a nurse, I barely get time to have a break so I don't use my phone whilst I'm at work. I also ensure that I shut down all of the apps that I use before I click the lock screen button. This was when I had the 8.3.1 iOS update.

The next day the exact same thing happened. Around 5pm my iPhone blanked out with barely any use. Then I had a notification that the new iOS update (8.4.1) , so I updated it. Honestly I wished I didn't because its just made the whole situation 10 x worse. When my iPhone is in charge or on the table I find that it is overheating quite a lot.

Now in the morning my battery was 1% with barely any use. In the night my phone is at my bedside table, all of the open apps i've closed. In the night I don't use my phone at all and I dont set an alarm and yet this problem still occurs.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, please reply

I had this problem too and I guess I am having hardware issues now because of this software problem.

I had to get a new phone because of this also - shame on you apple. You should have better tested backward compatibility on all devices before making a release.

There have been lots of complaints about this, mosty on iPhone5 and iPhone 5s after 8.4.1 update

Did Apple replace your phone for you. They should have being that it was their software that messed up your phone.

Well I was wrong. My 5s is still FUBAR, even after downgrade. I also turned off touch ID and that had no effect

    Hi,

Same here with iPhone 4S and iPad 4. This iOS 8.4.1 made both totally useless piece of HW . I can't believe this happened with Apple, seem the quality has taken a drastic fall. Fix this ASAP!

I have the same issue and its caused by this. The update seems to have triggered a re-scanning (and re-upload to cloud) of all my photos. If you go into Settings -> Photos & Camera you will probably see it 'Preparing XXXX items...' or 'Uploading XXX items'. When that process completes it will calm down but it takes several days

Exact same issue for me after 8.4.1 update. Drains like never before from 100% to 0% with about 4 hours of moderate use. It also is heating up irregularly. iPad seems to be suffering too. I do see that it's currently uploading 2 photoshop iCloud on my iPad. Can't check iPhone as it's powerless. Ipad has used 8% power while I've found this thread and read it using LTE network. Yikes.

As an update to my issue:

I had turned off Wifi and Bluetooth for most of today, and the drain was significantly less. I was sitting at 21%, which is still ridiculous for halfway through the day, but that's another story.

Then I turned on Wifi and BT, and it INSTANTLY dropped to 1%, then shut down.

I tried this again, and only turned on Wifi. With battery at 18%, turning on Wifi made the phone go to 1% and shut down within 10 seconds.

I'm so utterly disgusted with this phone right now.

I tried the hard start and my phone seems to have calmed down. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck everybody!

gmacdon76 above may be onto something. I checked settings >photos & camera and saw that over 1000 photos were being uploaded to iCloud, but only when wifi is available. I haven't been on wifi for awhile and phone is holding charge pretty well. It may be that if you're using wifi, battery is draining because of uploading. Maybe try turning wifi off.  IDK, pretty bad on Apple's part either way.

this is definitely an update problem. My phone is new iPhone 6+ (3days) and my battery went from 100 to 48% within 2 hours! I did nothing unusual as I would on my old iPhone 6. my phone is noticeably hot. Not only is the battery a problem but sometimes my phone doesn't respond. Especially while texting where there's a complete lag! I did a hard reset. Worked fine for the first day. Now the problems are back!

Most people who've updated are experiencing this problem, including me. In the next update (iOS 9) which is going to be released early next month is most likely going to fix this. They're even adding a power-saver option to make your battery last longer. So everything should be good in the next update.
