As someone who listens to music on my Mac and iPhone every day I know how personal my music library is. It would certainly bother me if I could not delete music that I did not want. Let's see if we can get you back on the road to enjoying it.
To remove the album from both iTunes on your Mac and Music on your iPhone, follow the steps in this article - Remove iTunes gift album "Songs of Innocence" from your iTunes music library and purchases.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best.

When it came to manually deleting it from my iPhone, it just wouldn't let me. However, now I go into my playlist and, I am happy to say, the offending album is no longer there. Whatever happened, it did it without further action on my part.
