Q: "Add Image to Photos" in Safari not working. Any thought why? OS X (10.3.3)

Hey team, when I bring up the contextual menu in Safari and select "Add Image to Photos" nothing happens. Is it supposed to behave in the same way iPhoto did? Any thoughts welcomed and encouraged, thanks!

In your personal opinion - not sure why you are the finial authority for all software design

Whatever, it is what it is and no one except Apple can change it so tell them - not us -I'm sure they will be eternally grateful for your incredible insight about their decisions

This also works for me (mostly - the new photos appear at the bottom of ALL PHOTOS as blanks, but when you click on them the image opens up).  But I'm not sure I understand the distinction here.  If my library PHOTOS LIBRARY 2 was not designated as the systems library, what was?

    Thanks again, Old Toad!

It is actually my professional opinion based on 25 years experience in software development. I don't see me claiming I am the final authority for all software design.

After reviewing the latest contribution of OT and the understanding that photo imports will occur into the defined 'system library' and not the current, active library.

Andrew,  when you use the option key feature to open Photos to select the library you want to use, it will tell you what your current system library is.  Since you have already switched it now, this won't be able to tell you what it was before.  You can always look in all your library and see if you can find the images you had been attempting to add.

Thanks Dean - BTW, I restarted Photos and the new images are now displayed properly and also PHOTOS loaded way faster than what I was experiencing previously.

I backed up and repaired my Photos Library and made sure that my Photos library is designated as the System Photos Library (which it is) and I still cannot "Add Image to Photos" from safari.

Amazing that for someone who only posts negative commentaries has has tens of thousands of users say that I have helped them and you who know everything and has the finial definitive decision on everything has never helped a single person - maybe your opinion on both software design and on me  is actually totally worthless  - look highly likely

Thx again Old Toad and Larry for your ideas. I sincerely hope that this thread doesn't descend into an argument about who knows more or less than others.

Back to the problem I'm having:

Holding down the option key while starting Photos brings up the following.

Choose Library Screen Shot 2015-08-27 at 12.32.19 pm.png

As you can see, I only have one library available to choose from.

After opening Photos, I click on Preferences and get the following.

    Prefernces Screen Shot 2015-08-27 at 12.29.13 pm.png

The 'Use as System Photo Library' is greyed out, implying that this is my System Photo Library.

However, I still have the problem of pics not landing in the library after 'Add Image to Photos'.

Polgs, previously you had tried creating a new, empty library and that did not appear to work.  When you tried that, where you aware of the need to set that new test library as the System Photo Library?

    Still testing:

    - I created a new library

    - Made it the System Photo Library

    - Still no good trying to 'Add Image to Photos'

I still suspect an authorisation issue. Are there any rules that determine who is allowed to add pics to the Photos App?

Thx Dean. I thought of that just after I posted earlier.

Just making sure we're all on the same page:  you are looking at the bottom of the All Photos window after trying to import a photos from an email, right?

Another test you can try:  log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can import from an email there into an Photos library.  That will tell us if your problem is system wide or limited to your user account.

It works for me so I don't know why it won't work for you.

In my case I am trying to add photos from safari were you right click an image found on safari and select "Add Image to Photos"

I have tried all the recommend solutions yet still nothing works.

On a side note I made a "test" user account to see if I could add images from safari and it does seem to work! So there must be something wrong with my primary account.

    Try the following:

1 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos

    Finder001.jpg

2 - reboot, launch Photos and try again.

NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

    Mavlibvis.png

where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
