Q: Trackpad Erratic

Okay since yesterday afternoon my trackpad has been either very erratic or just non-responsive. I looked up some solutions to fix the problem and found the most common one being the shift + option + command + L + Power Button combo. I tried it a few times and it hasn't made a permanent change. Can someone give another solution PLEASE, this is beginning to be very annoying. Also could someone give a reason towards this problem? Because I've had my MacBook since 2013 and not until yesterday has this been a problem.
