Q: Photostream not updating on Mac Photos

Anybody else having issue with Photostream? I had two iPhoto libraries: One I was actively using, and one I've been hanging onto to merge one day. When I updated to Photos app, I read the pages on opening multiple libraries, hoping that this was finally my opportunity to merge the two. Alas, this only allowed me to successfully open each library, one at a time. When it became clear that there was going to be no way to merge the two libraries within Photo, I decided to just go back to opening my default iPhoto library with Photos and would import from the old iPhoto library manually some day in the future. My question/problem (finally, I know): It doesn't appear that new photos from my devices, since configuring Photos on Mac, are showing up in my Mac Photos photo stream. They stop on the day I installed it, and I don't see any way to force a sync. What did I do wrong? What am I missing?

Thanks so much.  I had too many images to use iCloud and didn't want dup's everywhere.

    Hi Leonformearth

I had the same issue, which I believe was caused because I had updated the Photos library in iCloud on my iOS devices, but had not yet updated my MBP to El Capitan.  I realised this may be the issue, the had to wait until the El Capitan OS X was released.  Updated to El Capitan, and now all is behaving as it should....

Many thanks, jmush1.  All the other tricks (closing camera, photos, restarting macbook...) didn't work.  Nice job!

    This really worked, tnx!

When is Apple going to fix this? Ever since the new Photos app the photostream has become a nightmare.

Never unless people report it - http://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

Wow!  I've had this issue sporadically over the last year.  Sometimes Photos from my iPhone would show up quickly on my Mac, sometimes not.

This is the first workaround that I've seen that works quickly and easily.  Thanks!

Thank you very much.  I was struggling for hours with this until I came across your solution.

not working for me. I also don't use iCloud (too many photos for the 5GB free plan). Why won't these photos update? I lose patience after 20 min and they're there a week later (or whenever I check next, possibly hours later). Any ideas?

Why does it take time? Because it takes time - it is not an instant process and the length of time is not predictable as it depends on many, many things including your internet connection and  Apple server traffic amoung them

Ideas? Sure - remember that Patience is a virtue

I do agree that patience is a virtue, however there are many existence proofs that show that it is possible to update photos from a mobile device to a cloud service and then back to a desktop computer is a fairly rapid amount of time. To say that it "takes time because it takes time" doesn't really address the issue that the software itself just doesn't work that well. I have reported this exact bug to Apple but, since no one outside of Apple to able to see any bug reports, you'll have to take my word for it.

As I write this, I am waiting for three posts that I took this afternoon on my iPhone 6+ running iOS 9.2.1 to show up in my iCloud photo album (never mind my Mac!). Still no joy, even though the phone has been plugged in to external, power. I was able to get some work done by e-mailing a photo from my phone to my e-mail account and then dragging it onto my desktop wot work with it. Kind of defeats the purpose of seamless mobile<->cloud<->desktop workflow, doesn't it?

I tried jmush1 on Jul 29, 2015 8:45 PM fix 3 times but it never worked unfortunately and I didn't understand Bender's fix - maybe someone could say more about it?
