Q: Large iPhoto Library conversion to Photos for OS X seems stalled?

I have a large iPhoto library I am trying to open for the first time in Photos.  This library holds about 46,000 photos.  This iPhoto library is stored on my Time Capsule drive due to size.  It has worked just fine in iPhoto for a couple years. I used the Option on opening Photos to select the library last night and selected Open per the instructions I have seen.  It started processing and appears to have run all night (about 12 hours now) and is sitting at 10% complete and has been sitting there since I looked at it first thing this morning.  How can I tell if it is still Photos is still processing?   Does anyone know what timeframe one should expect for a library creation of this size?  Should I force quit and try again or just let it process?  Not a big Mac expert so would appreciate any help.

When I look in Activity Monitor I see the Photo Library Migration Utility running as seen here.

    No

the Photos library can not be on a wireless connection and it should not be on the same disk as the TM backup

You need another drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and it needs to be on a hard wired connection to yoruMac

Disabled WiFi on both laptop and Time Capsule, and used an Ethernet cable instead. Left it overnight and it worked.

Back to wireless, and Photos sees the library on the Time Capsule.

RX3 did you ever find a process that worked?   I have easily uploaded all my photos to Google Photos, straight out of my iPhoto library.  Took a few days of course but it works great.  Sharing is much easier too.  Thinking I may just stick with iPhoto as my desktop repository until Apple can figure this out.

Thanks for the info Bill  I  have tried disabling Wi-fi on my Mac but not on my Time Capsule.  My setup sounds exactly like yours.  Maybe I will give it a try.  I  have moved everything to Google Photos though.  Linked right to my iPhoto library and sucked all the photos up to Google Photos for backup.  Works great for sharing too.  So, may just stay with that solve and use my iPhoto as a on premise library for the time being.  Thanks again for the info.  Share your frustration.
