Q: iPhone music app freezing, throwing me out, misbehaving

This is on an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS 8.4.1 as of today, running the music app with an account for the family. As I'm browsing and listening to music, the app threw me out after an hour or so complaining about an authentication failure, unable to log me in. Quitting and restarting the app didn't work. Getting to the iTunes and app store section was impossible as the settings app would freeze when I pressed this menu item. Rebooting the phone got it working.

I am seeing the app misbehaving at irregular intervals, with the screen just going blank with no music list or albums, but it doesn't stop playing what's already on.

At other times, selecting a song doesn't play it. The app appears to "think" about it for a while and simply gives up. Retrying 4-5 times gets it playing.

There's really no problem with my WiFi or net connection and I'm on a 200Mbps fibre line here. Just to test, spotify worked just fine with no glitches.

Are there any tips & tricks you have used to resolve these problems?

I talked to support yesterday.  Followed the same instructions.  It worked for a few hours.  I don't advise anyone else wasting their time.  It is a obvious problem that will need to be fixed by another update.

Update: great, the issue has just come back again. I definitely quit. Apple doesn't want us to use either apple music nor our phones properly. Even Apple support team don't come up with definitive solutions, only temporary ones. I will have to move back to spotify these days. I wish I could stay at Apple music longer, but it's forcing me to stop using it. I really like Apple music but its user experience has been a nightmare since the beginning, phone gets stuck, wrong and inexplicable albums artwork, duplicate songs, playlists that disappear. When people say Steve Job's Apple no longer exists I'm usually the first one to reason with that idea. Recently I've started thinking about this possibility over and over... I guess Steve would never allow Apple to launch such a big stream service under those conditions and bad user experience. I could say extremely buggy. I'm done with it, for a while... But hoping not forever. I still prefer Apple music over spotify.

Zazou, yes all of those. I knew when it had happened either by an unresponsive app or I would see my iPad (8.4) receiving notifications (verification codes, daughter's app store requests, etc) that I was not receiving on my iPhone. Restart would fix it, temporarily.

I am not going to say iOS 9 is fixed yet because i haven't gone a few days on it. I am about 18 hours in though with no issues.

I can't listen to music using the Music app or the Podcast app, I can't download or update apps in the App Store, I can't access Music settings within the Settings app, my phone gets extremely hot when I'm simply texting or browsing the web, Safari gets super slow and unresponsive.

I originally posted way back on page 1 of this thread with the same issue.  Glad I was not alone.  I finally was able to get my iCloud music library back on my phone after trying the signing out of all devices, rebooting, and signing back in.  That was my priority after continually getting the iCloud library cannot be enabled error message for a week.  All was fine for a few hours, then the same issues re-appeared.  I have my library back, but without a re-boot, music not directly on my phone will not play, including Apple Music playlist, Radio, and cloud library music.  Again, I go back to if Apple is going to charge me for Apple Music and iCloud space, then it must work.  These type of issues are inexcusable.

HI Everyone... I've been following this thread, suffering with the rest of you, dealing with the same bug/hang ups associated with iTunes and Apple Music. I decided to just go for broke a few days ago, and updated both my iPad Mini 2 Retina and my iPhone 6+ to iOS 9 Beta 3... And so far so good. The bug hasn't reared its ugly head since.  The AppStore is notifying me of app updates, Apple Music works fine, and I can go into iTunes settings without it freezing/hanging.   Also, I figured since we are probably only a month away from iOS 9 moving to Gold Master, that it wouldn't be horribly buggy at this point. So far, I've found beta 3 to be a stable build.

Just wanted to pass along my experience, for whatever it's worth.

I've also been having this problem since updating to IOS 8.4.1- constant crashing of the app and endless loading screens.

I called Apple Support and described what happened and mentioned that this is a known issue affecting some Apple IDs found on Apple's Discussion Forum. He seemed disinterested in that and goes through the usual troubleshooting procedures. So I told the gentlemen it happened even after a complete wipe of my iPhone to factory default and just signed in my Apple ID to restore key information.

He then went on to ask me to take my iPhone to a physical Apple Store for them to do a hardware diagnostic in order to verify my complains. I gave up. I KNOW THERE"S NOTHING WRONG with my iPhone 6. Last night, everything started working again after the usual restarts to get Apple Music streaming working (usually for 2-3 hours with battery drain penalty) and it has been okay for the last 12 hours. Since last Friday, I've had a 24 hour trouble free period and now it's been 12 hours. So I still think it's a backend issue tied to some Apple IDs and update 8.4.1.

So it looks like there is nothing we can do about it except to:

    1. Upgrade to beta 9.0 and risk other bugs

    2. Wait for iOS 9.0 release and live with this for the moment

    3. Disable Apple Music and use another service while on 8.4.1

Forget doing a restore or starting a fresh install. It's going to be a waste of your time if your Apple ID is hit by this bug. For those on 8.4, please DON"T UPGRADE TO 8.4.1.

After following the instructions on My solution to this current Apple Music and Email Link Mess my iPhone has been working ok for nearly 24 hours, previously it never got more than 30 minutes without the problems returning. My iPad however was not so lucky and is currently experiencing all of the usual issues again. I know some people have gone more than 24 hours with their phones only for them to mess up again so I'm fully expecting that to happen to me also.

I won't be carrying out any more troubleshooting and will now just wait for the iOS 9 official release.

    "Verdict: Do Not Install!"

If I had read this Forbes article earlier that would have saved me a lot of Frustration.

    Quick update:

As suggested in this thread I tried to solve it via removing all music from my phone. Did that, did the restart and logging back in routine, but this time didn't switch on iCloud music library. Somehow the phone still shows me "my music" that was on the phone before, but now in the cloud. I can listen and stream with no issues, same goes for the Apple Music sections (For you, ...). Leads me to the thought that it is related to iCloud music synchronization. Constantly checking for the problem to reoccur but didn't so far.

I also opened a case with support, went through several people and am now in touch with a senior who is looking into the problem and this thread, forwarding all info to the engineering team to look at. Let's see what comes from that.

I Too have a case with engineering. It's so important that people start calling  asking for senior and then an escalation.

Well my iPhone lasted about 36 hours before crapping out this time with precisely the same issues as always.

I actually got an email from Apple earlier today informing me that they removed a post of mine from the forum because I dared give somebody some information about iOS9.

It's a little bit of a shame they haven't been a bit more proactive regarding this genuine issue that is clearly affecting a large number of users. They must be reading all the posts and it doesn't take a genius (pun intended) to see there is a clear pattern of failure here, regardless of whether they are able to identify the root cause.

I've had all same issues with iPad Air, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (all running 8.4.1). I've tried all recommended fixes. Nothing worked for more than a couple hrs. Then called Support yesterday out of frustration. The woman I talked to actually looked on the community forum herself after I told that there were many here with same issue. She recommended, as last resort, to restore iPhone and set up as new. It worked!!! That is until I got up this morning and ran into the same problems. She did tell me that if the restore doesn't work, "you may have to wait for next firmware update coming out next month."
To anyone with this issue, save yourself some time, energy and wait for the next firmware release. Don't bother spending another minute fretting about it. Nothing works for more than a few hrs. I'm actually not convinced the issue is with 8.4.1, as everything worked fine since release and I have been using Apple Music every day. The issues started within the last week. Try to be patient, use Spotify for a few weeks (thought I prefer Google Music myself). I would recommend asking for an free extra month of Apple Music if you are still on trial. The issues aren't enough for me to jump ship. I think they will get there eventually. They are trying to give us a complete music experience, which they have mostly succeeded in doing. Things will get better...
