Sep 1, 2015 10:40 AM in response to altohorn1by Linc Davis,From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Advanced
and check the box marked
Include Bonjour in the Bookmarks menu
if it's not already checked. Then select
Bookmarks ▹ Bonjour ▹ Name of printer
A web page served by the printer should open. Does it?

Sep 2, 2015 6:02 AM in response to Linc Davisby altohorn1,Thank you for your response. No it did not. I followed the steps and clicked Bonjour on the Bookmark menu and the name of my printer appeared but the brother web site did not come up - as the address was just a jumble. This all began with the download two days ago of OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite. I had perfect function before that.

Sep 2, 2015 7:06 AM in response to altohorn1by Linc Davis,Does the printer have an address on the network? You can find out from the built-in status display, if it has one, or else by printing the status page according to the manufacturer's instructions. That would involve pressing some combination of buttons on the device.
Restart the printer and the wireless router. Any change?

Sep 2, 2015 7:34 AM in response to altohorn1by John Galt,The Brother MFC-J835DW is an AirPrint printer. A spontaneous disappearance is usually resolved by restarting your router.
While you do that, you might as well restart the printer as well. Power down both of them and let them rest for a moment, then power them back up again.
If it still does not appear, then delete the existing printer entry in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and add it again as an AirPrint printer (adjacent to "Use" select "AirPrint").

Sep 8, 2015 8:34 AM in response to John Galtby altohorn1,Thank you all for comments. None of the above worked, but I have good function using a USB cable. Again it is curious that this began with the OS X 10.10.5 download, and there was function very briefly on 3 occasions. I would be interested to know if others had this problem with the OS X download.
