Q: iCal not saving my event

This is a very recent problem - it started about 2 weeks ago. Every time I create a new event with details, it appears for a brief second but subsequently, all the details disappear and it'll become 'New Event' on the right date with no other information. So I have to key in all the details again but this time, it'll save properly. Is any one experiencing the same problem? And what can I do to fix this 'cos it's frustrating. Thank you.

Not so "new" issue according to this thread in the forum:

Since upgrading to Lion, my iCal has been erratic.  Two main issues:

    1. New events - once I create a new event and name it, usually within a few seconds, the title of the event changes to New Event.

    2. iCal is unstable:  Usually manifested in two ways -

    a. freezes or goes to sleep for a random period of time and then works

    b. crashes and delivers an error about ending abnormally asing if to restart or ignore, or some such language.

    Any clues?

    Same problem for me.

I think Apple created an iCal event:

    "Fix the iCal bug"

    but it reverted to

    "New Event"

and they can't remember what they keyed in.

"Hey Bob, can you find the to-do list you had on a yellow post-it 2 weeks ago?"

"Hum... let me check the bin, the cleaning guys are on holiday in August... we may be lucky"

    Best regards

I work from 2 computers and on each one I have to add each New Event in stages to avoid it defaulting to "New Event"

    Stage 1:

Add New Event and give it a title

    Add Location

    Add time

    Stage 2:

    Change Calendar

Change Calendar seems to be the problem - if I change any of the above at the same time as changing the calendar, it only accepts one change.

It is extremely frustrating and unbelievable that there is no fix.

    1. An Apple genius suggested I update to Yosemite

    2. Completed the iCal Advanced Trouble Shooting

    3. Restarted my computer

days and hours of trouble shooting later it's STILL SHOWING NEW EVENT AFTER I ENTER AN EVENT!

Seriously, are any of the geniuses reading these posts?

There must be at least 100,000 posts with the key words "NEW EVENT" or "iCal"

It's been 3 months since the post was created. I have a new semester starting now and last year I used ical all the time for my schedule but I no longer can (due to the events becoming "new event"). Apple please fix this problem!

I have been having this problem sporadically too.  Nothing better than having the obscure New Event show up in the Calendar.  I have tried the Create the Event without changing which calendar is used until it has been saved once under the default and that seems to resolve the issue that shouldn't exist.

I create most of my events on my Mac Mavericks (10.9.5) and have noticed on my iPhone and iPad there is an Add Button on the initial event creation box and nothing shows up on my other devices until that is clicked on.

That being said I have created an event on my Mac and it appears quickly on my other devices as a New Event as it is syncing immediately, even before the event is completed by "closing" it.  There appears to be a conflict with whatever information is initially synched on the New Event Creation/Change of Calendar sequence.  Seems to me they could create an Add button on the Mac version of the Calendar that would prevent if from being synched immediately.

Apple you can mail me my tech support charge when you have time.

The workaround we have in place is setting iCloud to synch at (15 minute) intervals, thus avoiding creating the new event via synch in iCloud immediately.  We are using 10 shared calendars and multiple users, iPhones, etc.  So far 60 days and no repeat issues.  once I see that this iCal glitch is fixed we return to immediate push synching with iCloud.

I just checked and my sync is set at 15 mins already.  If I create an event on the Mac it shows up almost immediately on my iPhone calendar.  It seems to be synching immediately.  I tried to change it to some different time interval and see if it changes anything and it still seems to be automatically updating the event input on the Mac and viewed on the iPhone/iPad.

did you close the iCal application and reboot your mac and iphone before testing the synch interval?  I would complete those steps to be sure changes apply.

I have found a way to go around this glitch, which is

First setting the calendar type and letting the event sync (on my mac I scroll up to another month and then down again)

And only then adding the details (time of the event, whether it is whole day or not, its name, place, etc.).

So far this has worked for me. I hope this helps until the glitch is fixed.

I did change the refresh on the calendar to 30 minutes and rebooted the Mac and iPhone.  Don't see anywhere on the iPhone settings to change the sync interval.  A new event created on the Mac still shows up right away on the iPhone.

That does seems to be a work around but is awkward as if I forget to do it 3 weeks later I am staring at New Event wondering where I am supposed to be, other than the location I am currently at.

Same issue here, Macbook Pro, OSX 10.9.5, iCal 7.0. It has been driving me crazy, so frustrating as it takes me forever to imput and then I find mysterious New Events that I can not remember what they are. I had not called Applecare because I predicted they would tell me to upgrade to Yosemite.

I just tried the work around of leaving defaults, closing and then reopening.  Still tedious but better than nothing. I am ready to go back to paper calendar.

So if Apple can´t even manage something as simple as a calendar for so long and don´t help or do something about it, what can we do?

are there any other better working programs/apps for calendar?
