    HI Noah..

Thanks for for your input. Unfortunately this didn't work for me at all and believe me i shouted more than"f u Apple". No response from the mic at all. In the end like previous posters they just replaced my iPhone. I was still within the first couple of weeks of owning it, never mind the warranty.

Same problem with my iPhone 6:  Siri does not respond, dictation does not work, voxer messages I send are just static noise. When I use my headphones, all of these things work. Microphone problem.  Seems like a hardware issue to me. Phone is still under warranty and AT&T is sending me a new one.

Maybe if I ran the B$&@? Over would you hear her scream?? Doubt it. Because APPLE probably has her S&M gagged. I'm tired of these Apple products!! Changing to Samsung very soon!!

I had IOS Version 8.3 when one day Siri stopped working for me. Same symptoms as everyone. Siri wave not responding to my voice. Dictation apps not working. I updated to 8.4 same result. I performed a complete Reset "Erase All Content and Settings," and Siri started working again. That evening I reinstalled about 1/3 of my applications. Next Day, Siri stopped working again. Then .....

I simply toggled the Ring/Silent Switch and Siri started working again. OMG! Problem Solved.

I'm facing the same issue both on iOS 8.4 and iOS 9 beta.

I did a restore as new to iOS 8.4 and it didn't work. Disabling both Siri and Dictation, then powering-off and on again and enabling them didn't help.

All the while both Voice memos and other apps like WhatsApp, google translate etc are working just fine.

Apple service chat online couldn't help me, and said it would be forwarded to developers. They have said that it sounds like a major software issue.

BTW, all online threads about this issue are of people who have upgraded to iOS 8.

Guys, this is very important you should all read this:

After spending hours of research on the internet I have found a very interesting read, mentioning that Siri and Dictation are functioning through ANOTHER microphone, next to the front-facing camera. So, the problem is indeed a hardware problem. At least it was for me, so I replaced the proximity cable (which includes front-facing camera and mic) and it fixed the problem!

To test this do the following:

    1. Test if there's any signal wave when using Siri and Dictation

    2. Take a front-facing video, and then play it and listen if you hear any audio.

*If there is audio, it must be a software issue - try disabling Siri and Dictation, and then do a power off power on or reset. If that doesn't work you can try to reset to factory setting. If there's no audio move on to step 3:

    3. No audio at all? As mentioned above you are most likely facing a hardware problem, which is a faulty proximity cable. This means the mic next to the front-facing camera (which is used by Siri and Dictation too) is faulty.

    The solution:

Take it to Apple and replace it, if you can. You can also replace it on your own, the part is cheap, but the replacement process is pretty difficult, and you could be creating other issues, so be warned.

Here is the part on Ebay's listing

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261898279994?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=S TRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

    Here's how to do it:

    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+5+Front-Facing+Camera+and+Sensor+Cable+Repla cement/10896

This has also helped me to replace the part.

It is odd as for me the whole issue happened suddenly when dictation stopped working, but when I opened the phone I saw an open screw and things were loose, I replaced it and everything seems to be ok now.

Once again - doing this is at your own risk, it took me a few hours to replace it and after doing this I had a few more issues so it took me another hour to re-fix it and make sure everything's in place. It might be better to take it to Apple, or a local repair shop.

    Hope that helps.

    Good luck guys!

You know something. You are a genius. My iPhone 6 running iOS 9 PB 3, Siri just stopped hearing commands. I tried all the software fixes, nothing. Came here, read your post, thought "yeah right', but grabbed my phone and slapped it against my leg, bought up Siri, yelled some expletives and bugger me, it worked. Great pick up. Let the abuse begin.

SIRI NOT WORKING AFTER IOS 8 UPDATE - RESOLVED !!

I've read through all of these posts here, some utterly ridiculous, but one specifically made me think outside the box. "Siri only now hears through bluetooth" - Well, when you bring up Siri, there's a bluetooth icon in the lower right corner now. If you press that, it will bring up the choices... Mine were 1) My bluetooth headset, and 2) Iphone.  Select Iphone, and life is good.

I hope this works for your issue as it was such a simple fix, once I connected the dots.

need to go to apple store and report problem

they claim there is no problem like this with 8.4.1 download because people haven't come to store for help

I went and my phone was still under warranty and they replaced it

At my job, we work on iPhones, workstations, laptops, field computers, you name it; I had a user come to me once and say they are not getting audio from their iPhone. I checked the soft switches in settings, and simply toggled the switches one way then back. Not really expecting it to work, but only looking to see if anything jumps out at me because everything looked correct for normal operation. To my surprise, one of the sound switches I toggled enabled the sound to start working again. Now when I say toggled, I mean switched it off then back to its original position. It shouldn't have worked, but it did. So same occurred with my previous post with siri; toggling the ring/silent switch should not have worked but it did. If there was anything I learned in my career in IT, it was not to make assumptions because as soon as you start making assumptions it will inevitably come back and bite you in the ***.

These simple little fixes saves the company money, and if you can save a company money, you will be much more valuable for it.

This is so Gilligan’s Island, but it worked for me, too! No kidding. I’ve had to do it a couple more times, but there’s something not quite connecting that a simple smack on the front of the glass fixes. So much for the Apple Store’s $150 fix for my iPhone 5c.

Finally someone has a simple, elegant way to determine if this is software or hardware. The front facing video recording trick is just what I needed. Now I know no manner of switching things on and off is going to get Siri working again, because it's not Siri! And all the other apps that work do so because they use the primary mic, including Apple's own Voice Control. Now to see if I can get Apple to repair/replace to fix it. Thank you!

Thanks for the message! This helped a great deal. My phone is out of warranty so I just paid to have someone replace my proximity cable ($55) and it works great!
