Q: Internal speakers don't work w/ Windows 8.1 Mac pro (early 2009)

I just installed windows 8.1 via a DVD onto my mac pro (early 2009)... everything is great but the internal speakers don't work with windows. They work on mac, but not with this new windows operating system... How can I get the internal speakers to work on my mac pro 2009 when using windows?

Windows 8.1 is not officially supported on a MP 2009. You can try W7 drivers from Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support . For a MP 2009, from Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621 ,

Have you tried:

If some features aren't working when you start your Mac from Windows 8.1, try reinstalling Boot Camp support software using Boot Camp Assistant.

I don't. Theres "audio inputs and outputs" with "digital audio" as sub option. And "sound, video, and game controllers" with "High definition audio device" as sub option. I clicked update driver system for them but there were no updates

Are you talking about a MacBook Pro? Or the 40 lb silver tower Mac Pro?

How do I now the version of the bootcamp driver I used the first time around? can I look it up by opening one of the files on my usb?

if I do windows 7 instead, will sound work?

You can find the details in Bootcamp.xml and look for a Product version line. lllaass has a good question. Your title says MacPro 2009. Can you please check in About This Mac and confirm?

Please create a backup of Windows and a System Restore Point. It will save you from future driver update heartburn(s).
