Q: Problems with sound output - Nielsen Audio

Hey guys,

A few months ago I seemed to have installed a software which created a new sound output. Under System Preferences > Sound > New sound output called 'Nielsen Audio'.

Cut a long story short, basically my Macbook has treated this output as the default sound output hence whenever I reboot or turn my Mac back on, it is the automatic output that is selected. My problem is that this output is always on mute and I have to change it under system preferences EVERY SINGLE time I boot my Mac up.

I tried uninstalling all related Nielsen files but somehow the audio output has remained in the system. The logo even remains on the top bar, mocking me.

Is there ANY way I could remove this thing off of my system?! I just want one audio output and that's the good old standard built in speakers.

Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), MacBook mid-2009

I have the Nielson Audio output as well. It's related to the Nielsen online survey panel. http://digitalvoice.nielsen.com/pnl/us/home

I noticed i keep hearing a popping noise in my sound output. i checked and my system had the Nielsen Audio was the default output. I'm an active member of the panel so i need to find a workaround to disable the output but not remove the software entirely.

Yes, I found a similar thread in the forum about Nielsen but was related to a different problem

It turns out that reinstalling the Nielsen pack solved this problem. I'm not entirely sure what made it stick around in the first place for my system.

But anyway, I went on to uninstall the program again and it has been successfully removed this time round.

    Hi,

I just had this problem by download some app out of the AppStore and ended to delete essentials files from the system file thinking that i was fixing it, result? my MacPro stopped to work and I had a really hard time to get back.

Afterwards I found the solution for it. very simple, when I download the app it came with the uninstall include but as normally I select all the move to the trash and erase all. when the trouble with the output began.

    Here is the solution:

I download the app again from this link: http://uk.nielsennetpanel.com/pls/mguk/mtr_install.do_manual?p_session_id=253511 78150529074254&t=0

By clicking on it, the download will start automatically.

Run the software and before confirm the full install, click on PERSONALIZE and unselect all others files and just select UNINSTALL.

    Them let it finish installing

Open application you will see a file called NIELSEN with the uninstall on it. run it and its done.

    Hopefully it will help you.

El Milo, this actually worked! It removed all the previously installed Nielsen Audio software and my speaker system is back to normal! Thank you!

Okay, I had the exact same problem as everyone else. I felt like an idiot, but my computer was crashing and the program was using up all the memory on my computer. I tried using the uninstall, which was absolutely useless. I remembered I had used EtreCheck (which is an Absolutely Free product and safe for Mac) https://etrecheck.com/ to fix some things before on my computer, and I used it to find the hidden files I wasn't finding by myself. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself. Basically, all it does is generate a report for you to tell you what's messing up your computer and where it can be found. In any case, I ran EtreCheck, and found all of the tiny Nielsen folders (there may be more than a few), trashed them, and restarted the computer. I would recommend a backup, because you never know. Long story short, it seems as if that did the trick, and I didn't have to buy any extra software. So, good times.
