Q: Tool bar with the R/Y/G buttons disappeared.

On my MacBook (Yosemite 10.10.5) the top toolbar disappeared.  Several desktops open simultaneously, without input from me, and the little 'x' to close them is gone.

Thnaks for the help.  Steve

It's an intermittent problem, and if I push the cursor to the top enough the missing top bar, etc, shows up....

You are in Full Screen Mode (I call it stupid mode). It makes the app fill the entire screen and you can't move it out of the way to see another window.

When you put the cursor to the top of the screen, it shows the menu bar and the title bar (where the dot buttons are located). If you click the green dot, it now goes into and out of Full Screen instead of the useful Zoom function it used to have.

You can still use Zoom by holding down the Option key and clicking the green dot. Or, you can Double-Click in the Title bar. The latter you have to set up in the Dock preferences.

Apps now "Resume" after shutdown. Any apps left open will re-open in the same state they were in when you shut down or restart.

You can disable that behavior by unchecking the box when you Shutdown or Restart.

You can also set it to close the windows when you quit an app in the General System Preferences.

Huh: A very good name for it.  :-)

Another cause to appreciate this community.. I can't keep up with all the 'tricks' so it's great to have people who know this stuff to ask..

    Thanks.

Yeah, it really annoyed me that they changed a button that has worked the same for 30 years give or take. Apple seems to have a passive-aggressive mentality about forcing their new tricks on everyone.
