Q: I have a new mac mini but I cannot pair with old trackpad whereas the keyboard worked straight away

I have entered the default code on support of 0000 to no avail. I have used the trackpad fine on my original mini, then recently on a macbook -until I bought my new mini- I changed the bluetooth name of my new computer in case this was the same as my old one and it was confused!

Any ideas anyone?

Mac mini (Late 2014), iOS 8.4.1

Did you unpair (delete with minus sign from BT preferences) the track pad from the old Mac?
