Q: Will photos stored in all folders on my mac be synced by my I Cloud photo Library

I have maintained photos in many folders related to projects or topics

i never used i photo

Will photos stored in all folders on my mac be synced by my I Cloud photo Library or do in have to move the photos somewhere specific

if so, what is the process for moving them

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

iCloud Photo library is not a feature or iPhoto or of the Mac - it is only a feature of Photos for Mac - If you use Photos and if you enable iCloud Photo Library then your Photos system library is synced with you iCloud Photo library which is synced with all devices loved into your Apple ID and with ICPL enabled

 

Nothing is take from your  Mac except the photos you have imported into your Photos System library as a managed library - https://www.apple.com/icloud/photos/

    Thank you very helpful   - a few follow on questions, please:

     

    You refer to the "Photo System library" as a "managed library"  -- is that the same thing as the 'Pictures' folder that is below my user identity? There are other folders that seem to be at the same folder level : movies, music, My Music, Pictures

     

    What does "managed library"  mean?

     

    Can i  'import photos to the Photo System Library by dragging folders containing pictures into the Pictures folder?  or is there some other process?

    No, No, and No

     

    A managed library is the default (and strongly recommended) where al photos imported to Photos are coins to the Photos library and y9u can if yo wish delete the original from outside the Photos library - see this article on iPhoto and file management (Photos is almost identical except Photos has a command to convert a referenced library into a managed library that iphoto did not have) - iPhoto and File Management

     

    The Photos system library is the library that you select as the systems library (you can have multiple libraries although that usually is not a good idea)

     

    The Photos library is not the same as the picture folder and has no relation to it except that is the default  and recommended (but not required) location for your Photos library to reside

     

    And you do not "import" by putting photos anywhere - you use the file menu ==> Import in Photos to import (or drag the photos to the Photos icon in the Dock) - importing is process where the photos is (by default and recommended) to the Photos library, a preview and thumbnail are made of it and the Photos database is updated to reflect the photo and its details

     

    The Photos application has a good Help file and a helpful Photos overview - I suggest you read both prior to moving forward as you currently has no understanding of the concepts of using a database Photo manager for your photos - you are still thinking of the archaic file management paradigm rather than a modern database paradigm
